Challenge: Long Exposure (Advanced Editing IV)
Camera: Kodak DX7590
Location: My bedroom in Lansing, MI.
Date: Jul 31, 2005
ISO: 80
Shutter: 16 sec
Galleries: Action, Digital Art
Date Uploaded: Jul 31, 2005

Obviously a concept shot. My first attempt at a long exposure shot. Played around for 3 days to try and get it how I wanted. I really like it, but I realize it may look too processed, too 'digital art' for many. If a couple or so people dig it though, I'll be happy :-)

Set up was in my bedroom during morning light with the blinds drawn. No other light. Put a black sheet on the bed, and a string on the neck of the guitar to pull it. Set the tripod fairly close to the edge of the bed at my selected angle and used the self-timer and a 16 sec. exposure. Just before the shot began, started pulling the guitar, counted off the time and pulled it into final position with a good 5-6 seconds to go.

The stars have me a little torn. I thought they were a neat touch, but in the end, I wished I would of gone without them and just had the black background. My wife said she liked them though, thought they added. I don't know, but we'll see I guess :-\

In ps-cropped, burned some highlights and details with opacity dropped, did a color burn layer @45%, hue/sat adj. with opacity dropped, curves adj. with opacity dropped, levels adj, added border.

thanks for checking out my pic :-)

Oh Tater, I love this! Haven't had much time to hang around dpc, and I missed this one. Wish I'd have been able to vote in the challenge, this would have been a top pic, no doubt.

Great placing in the challenge, congratulations!

(I like the stars too!)

pretty cool i like the technique used here and how sharp the actual guitar is and the starts are kinda iffy but don't really hurt the overall image. 6

Has a good graphics art feel to the shot. Wish there wasn't as much grain in the photo, but overall, the long exposure makes the shot interesting. 7

that was a fun experiment. It works, but might look cheesier than you expected.

Creative. Vibrant colors are very attractive, appealing. LIght on the guitar is a tad too much. Still an awesome pic. Good job. 8

Very cool!! Well done. The only thing I don't like is the border. It's kind of distracting, especially since this is a shot depicting a guitar flying in space. I'm thinking symbolic wise. The bold red border, to me, defines a limit...whereas space is limitless. OK, enough, deep thinking for one night. All in all, this is a very creative shot and technically well done.

This was awesome. I can imagine this working in an add about guitars, only with the name visible. I gave it a 10

Where did I put my Darkness CD? ;) Good job, fun shot I think the border really adds to this picture. I'm not usually a fan of the borders on pics. 8

What a fun take on the challenge. I love it. The rich colors and stars are great. I love the tail left behind. This would make an awesome poster. Rock on!!!
