Challenge: Illusions II (Advanced Editing IV)
Collection: Challenges
Camera: Canon EOS-20D
Lens: Canon EF-S 60mm f/2.8 Macro USM
Location: Harwich Port, MA, USA
Date: Aug 4, 2005
Aperture: f/22
ISO: 100
Shutter: 1/125
Date Uploaded: Aug 5, 2005

The grille of a Chrysler P/T Cruiser in metallic blue. When inverted, it reminds me of an art moderene apartment building. Thi s is an illusion of scale and I am 100% sure it is DOOMED but I like it.

The original image was flipped 180 degrees. Hue/sat was goosed a little, but not much. Duplicate layer was created and the colors were inverted. The layer was set to "difference" mode and faded.

Thanks to all who have "defended" my whimsical "illusion of scale", and understood that it is a thought-out image, not a stuffed-in one. It's not in my nature to do "set-ups"; I photograph what I see, only very rarely creating something for the purposes of a challenge. I sometimes arrange things (like peppers and cilantro, or a sculpture in a refrigerator) but can't recall offhand ever having created an entire shot for DPC.

I too was mildly suprised this didn't do a bit better; I thought it was an interesting "illusion" and a creative one. But so it goes.

As for those who commented negatively on the "noise", there IS NO NOISE IN THIS SHOT! That's blue metalflake paint... I have seen few better examples than this shot of the absurd, knee-jerk reaction against "noise" in DPC... Geesh... Better not photograph metalflake paint any more, it's too noisy...

I recognized it as the grill of an auto, understood the illusion as it being like an apartment building, scored it high, and am surprised that it did not place in at least the top quarter or better. It's a good photo.

Those who couldn't see the illusion here are either blind or lacking imagination, or even worse, plain dumb stupid. I liked the treatment as well as the idea. Reminded me of the watergate in DC, somehow. My sympathies that this didn't do as well, but I hope to keep seeing such individualistic images.

Too abstact for my taste... What is the illusion supposed to be?

Like the title and the abstract image but hard to see the illusion.

Seems more abstract to me than an illision. Still a cool photo though - 6

more abstract than illusion to me, but certainly a creative view of an everyday object

I am not sure what I am lookin at here,
I love the colours and the composition,
unfortunatly as I do not relate to the image I struggle with the link to the illusions theme.

I'm trying to understand what the illusion is but I don't get it :( I'm not really sure what I'm seeing either.

Very nice! I really like it. Very 60's feel. 10
Maybe move the camera a little left and tilt a little right? Just nitpicks.

Not sure what the illusion is here, but it's a very visually appealing image. Great color and lighting.

umm.. the only thing illusionary (is that a word?) about this shot is the filter you ran it through.

Color is good, lighting is good, this one doesn't stick out to me.

I really like the abstract"ness" of this photo. The metallic purple is a nice color and the lines are interesting. I'm not understanding what the illusion is (I can be dense). To me, it's a icture of blinds that have been color enhanced with PS.

I'm trying to work out what it is I'm looking at here? It's an interesting effect on the photo!

A beautiful image with nice lines and colors, but I'm just not sure what I am looking at or why it is an illusion.
