Challenge: Live Music (Basic Editing III)

Location: Bar 1 Twenty, Huddersfield

The band 'Mr Shiraz' playing at my local venue 'Bar 1 Twenty'. The lights are usually controlled by someone who thinks it's really creative to have them in complete darkness 90% of the time, so I bounce flash off the ceiling. This shot was taken at 12mm, I love this lens for gigs when I can get in close.
I don't expect this to ribbon, but I want to show that almost anybody can get a photo like this with a local band using flash.

I just wanted to add to my comment below and the only way you would know it was there is if I posted a new one. I meant to also include that I remember in my 20's going to see then many unknowns at a club in Atlanta call "The Masquerade" it has since been closed down and they are building I think high rise apartments. Anyways is was an old cotton mill turned into a 3 story club. Bottom floor was Hell, middle was Purgatory, and top was Heaven. All the concerts were held in Heaven and I remember seeing Prong, Danzig, Type O Negative, Pantera, Stuck Mojo and bands like that. This photo brought back those good memories. I was always the guy on the right screaming "HELL YEAH".........Oh the good old days. Thanks for bringing that back.

One side note for the ones that will remember I went and saw Ugly Kid Joe perform at The Masquerade just before their first big hit "I Hate Everything About You" that was the first of many shows at that place.

I really like this one! I love how you get the feeling of being in the crowd.

This is awesome as a B&W... I don't think it would feel the same in color.

I carried this image in my mind's eye after signing off. It does contain a surge of energy that is very well represented in the b/w medium. Congratulations on your top ten finish.

Terrific photograph. The relationship between the guitarist and the most prominent fan is wonderful; shows just how much the former loves making music & how much the latter enjoys it. I'd have still been happy if you'd decided to crop off the bit of a person (?) encroaching on the right, even though it would mean knocking a bit off the fan's shoulder. 8

Very sharp for a club shot! Too bad ya couldn't clone out some slightly distracting spots where the lighting is supposed to be and the more distracting arm to the very right of frame...

Great shot, because it perfectly shows the interaction between the musician and his audience. It also looks as if you were pretty close, it shows, as a viewer I feel like I was present. Besides that you've got great lighting and perfect B&W toning. 10 & fav!

I picked 5 10's, this is one of them. It is classic in the "rock" elements: the guitarist without a shirt, the raised instrument, the "devil horns" sign. I think this captures "live music" very well. The image is low-key, but that works in a rock setting.
