The model for this shot is a very important figure in my life - my father. I would really like you to visit the link below, where I unveil his face and do a short pictoral history of his life as a musician. I created this page specifically because so many of you were impressed with his hands and wanted to learn more about the man. I hope you enjoy.

A tender b/w study with great style. Congratulations on your top ten finish.

That's awesome that you care enough about your father, obviously an cool individual, to make a tribute to him :-D!

You mentioned in a comment on my photo that you rated mine above your own. Are you crazy? This photo just grabbed me from the start. It was my hightest rated in the challenge. Congratulations on your sixth place, although I believe that you were severely robbed. (No offense intended toward placed 1-5).

To say that this should have won a ribbon would not bring meaning to how much this image means to me. I would be humbled and honored if I could get a print of this signed by your father. PM me if this is somehow possible. Kudos on an impressive photo.
Yours and your fathers always,
TC

Thanks for posting the additional tribute to your Dad, Larry. He's terrific & so is your salute to him. Please tell him howdy & best wishes from Down Under. Wish I could hear him play.

I want to thank you for the wonderful reception to this photo and the 6th place. As a relative newcomer, I feel humbled. The feeling that it conveys must have compensated for the flaws in technique.

I never could get this image close to the vision I had for it initially, and the comments criticizing aspects of it were the very things I myself struggled with and didn't solve. I am thrilled that something about this image has spoken to so many of you.

Any feedback would be appreciated. I've been letting him read all of the comments you have made, and he has loved them.

Great capture. Nice clarity and I love the contrast. Never give up that passion no matter how old you feel.

Love it, and I applaud your decision to go with just the hands. Presumably this musician has a face that's as interesting as these marvellous hands, but your approach, leaving the face to the viewer's imagination, appeals to me more. 9

Wow, there are several things that many would say are wrong with this shot... It's cropped very tight at the bottom. It's square crop which IMHO is very hard to make look 'natural' for lack of a better term. The focus is a little shallow as shown most by his right hand pinkie. Ya cut the guys freakin head of for god's sake. But the more I look at it the more I feel that the gentleman here has a great love of life and music and has enjoyed all of it. I can here him playing...
Break the rules some more, I beg ya.
TC
I felt drawn back to this shot and tears came to my eyes because I realized part of why this moves me so much. Put a guitar in this gentlemans hands and this would be my father if he were still alive... Thank you for this.

Lovely picture of the musician's hands. Excellent lighting. IMO, I think the picture would be more complete if you would have included the musician's face as well. 8

This is a good capture. The lighting is pretty good, however, it maybe is a little strong on his right hand, IMO.

Photo doesn't convey much of a sense of 'cookin''. I feel the dof should have extended to both hands, or been much shallower to say one finger. Range of tones doesn't work for me, there are burnt out highlights and not much shadow detail. This would work well as a study of light and shadow, but it's not succeeded on that level here.

I think this is a strong picture and it is one of my faves, but it might have benefited from a portrait framing instead fo this square one.

Of the "closeup of the performer's instrument" genre, I felt this was one of the best. It's slightly out of focus in the foreground, but I think the quality of the man's hands make up for it. The highlights on the clarinet(?) are done right too. 9.

a bit soft to me. If it was sharper, you would have got an 8 from me.

Very nice. I love the texture in the hands - the hair and the tones with the silver of the flute. One of the best I have seen in this challenge.
