Great portrait. Truely a work of art.

PS: what did you say Marisol's phone number was again?

Great detail, wonderful expression and pose. You are a very good portraitist.

*Critique Club*

FIRST IMPRESSION: Very nice portrait of a pretty woman. Her head, in the photo, seems almost disconnected from the body (it's really a weird effect)

CHALLENGE: 2 colors, so challenge is met.

COMPOSITION: Very nice - good lighting, shadows, and definition. DOF is, I think, what gives that disconnected appearence mentioned.

TECHNICAL: Lighting contributes to the shadows, giving the photograph a 3-D feel, and this works quite well in a portrait such as this.

CONCLUSION: A very good portrait, and a very nice Duotone shot. Congratulations on the ribbon, too.

Thanks for sharing and good luck in future challenges!

She's beautiful! Congrats on third.

Felicidades, Luis! Además de ser una muy buena foto, con una composición muy interesante y una suavidad que casi se siente, causaste gran controversia en los foros.

simply she is beautifull and you are lucky

Nice picture, great result - but it should've been DQ'd. I wish the rules were more clear.

Awesome! I was hoping this would get a ribbon. It is a beautiful shot. You definetely need to order a nice sized print for your model.

this was my very favourite of the challenge. I'm sorry I didn't have time to comment during the challenge, but i wanted to say that everything about this shot was perfect. The DOF the lighting and your model is very lovely, she has a caring and beautiful face. :) I hope you thank her with a print of this photograph, its beautiful. Congratulations.

Excellent portrait. Very beautiful subject. well composed and lighting and dof is outstanding. good luck in the challenge!

I like the composition of this. It is simple and straightforward, and doesn't have a lot of distracting elements. It is easy to focus on her face.
06/01/2003 08:28:13 AM
Nice portrait! Love the crop and the tone. Great job!
06/01/2003 05:48:58 AM
great detail and lighting. Border a bit uneven. 9

Nice catchlights.

Not sure about the crop, and the frame is a bit blah, but the picture itself is excellent. (10)

beautiful portrait and model. lovely lighting and composition. well done.

Beautiful! Great angle on the portrait shot. The eyes and the catchlights are fantastic. The only thing that distracts me is the portion of the slip/dress below the strap in the bottom right corner. I think there's just too much/little for balance, and my eye gets drawn there rather than to the face. Excellent exposure though!

Nice border - how'd you do it? I like the tones in this shot - it's well composed and exposed. 8

Not only is your model "beaute naturelle" your photo has captured her luminescent face very well. I like the soft even lighting. I'm not sure about the crop - the tilt of her eyes comes down neatly from the corner but I'd like to see more of her face. The other corner is simply an out of focus shoulder (and strap) which doesn't do anything for the picture (except distract). Without the strap and the bit of upper arm, it would work better, but it would require redoing the shot at a slightly differesnt angle. I think having her face against a dark background would be too harsh - not soft and natural - so you made a good choice of using her shoulder I think just needs a little modification. 7

Very prettily framed, and nice light levels. I'm a little amused, though, by the fact that your title suggests a lack of makeup but it looks as if there is not only lip gloss but eyeliner and eyeshadow as well...

I really like this shot. Not only is it composed, and exposed well, the subject is attractive as well. Good clean work.

beautiful eyes and face. the crop is quite dramatic, but I am not sure it is optimal

the catchlights in the eyes obscure some detail, and make them look a little blurred. I like the natural look, but for this shot I wish the skin were a little more uniform.

This is a really great shot. DOF is spot on IMO, nice sharp focus on her face, and those eyes... Great job. Couldn't find anything to fault and I even thought the unusual border method was effective and an interesting change, so... 10

I think a little too close to be real appealing. Nice subject, I would like to see more of her neck and right side of her head. Mostly just too close. 5
05/27/2003 08:46:14 AM
There's nothing blatantly wrong with this shot, but unfortunately there's nothing particularly enthralling about it, either. Her expression is blandly calm, and doesn't add much. She's a pretty girl, and it's a decent photo of a pretty girl, but ... 7.
05/27/2003 03:06:09 AM
Oui, elle est vraiment très belle et il paraît que je la connais.
Yes, she is indeed very beautiful and i believe i know who she is
:)
It is also a classy style of beauty that i find very appealing, à la Isabella Rossilini, rather than that much sought after 'overtly sexy' beauty that often is really nothing but an empty shell. Please convey this compliment to your model !
Good portrait. I understand the pose and the position of the photographer. What i do not like about this is that somehow the face seems \'disjointed\' as it were from the body. From this vantage point, the relationship between the face and the body/shoulder almost seems a little like torture and almost as if the face is somehow pasted on. Vous comprenez?
;)

Very nice composition and skin tone. Beautiful girl. I do have an objection to the border, though. It's uneven...tighter on the right than on the left. I also find it a bit distracting. The relative clutter in the image on the bottom right takes away from the face.
05/26/2003 11:26:46 PM
Great portrait, lovely tone. At first it bothered me that the dress strap created such a strong intersect with her eye, but after looking more closely it needs that dress strap. Nicely done!
05/26/2003 10:31:05 PM
great image, love the depth of field, soft skin tones, lighting and sharp eyes and lips. nice angle on the subject's face with the eyes and lips the same distance from the lens and therefore both in focus. i like the skin and the spagetti strap, adds mood to the image. 10

Beautifully done. I love the lighting, and simplicity, and overall softness of this photo. Great use of duotone. Nice use of DOF, and I like the single white line that is on the photo... but watch that, because it doesn't look quite even on both sides. Well done. -9-

Just wonderful...love the light, the girl is so cute. I hate the black strap, but the whole shot is just a winner. Great face, expression is fantastic. LOVE this.

Great shot, beautiful subject. Lovely expression on her face, a truly great portrait, would love to have shot it myself. Not sure about the frame, I love it - 10 (the only 10 from me this challenge)

Great shot! I love the composition, love the skin tones and love the interaction she has with the camera....... the only, only thing I don't like (and I really dislike it alot!) is the white border.... but without it I love the image.... maybe, from my personal viewpoint I might have made oh-so slightly darker..... but it's gettin' a 10 from me!
Good luck, Todd.
