Neighbors Daughter. She is a sweet thing and reminds me of Shirly Temple. One of my favorite subjects to shoot. Prolly gonna get dinged for missing the right side of her hair, but it was a fast snap, and that is how it went down...

Just in case anyone comes back...
Thanks! I have never gotten so many comments.
For the "too soft" comments. I might have had a bit of camera shake because it was soft (my Pentax 50mm is razor sharp starting at f2.0) So I had to PP to get it to where it is.
for the "Dodge the eyes crowd" I did! A lot! It was a fast/candid snapshot backlit, not setup. If it had been I would have used flash.

Thanks for getting me to 30 comments. I took a bot of bit a hiatus fromk submitting and suddenly found that I could barely crack the 50% mark, so I am happy to be in 80% again.

great photo! I really love the colors and light, the eyes seem a tad out of focus but still not distracting, beautiful portrait :)......Best of luck ;)

Part of me loves the lack of DOF, but the other part wishes more of her were in focus...either way the expression/model and lighting are superb. Adorable.

The selective sharpness effect has a good impact. There are a few blown out white spots (and one of them looks like it's been burned to correct it; there is a more effective way to get rid of those blown out whites, write to me if you wish to know how I fix them) and the eyes are too dark compared to the rest of the image, since they should be the main focus of a portrait. Nevertheless, this is a sweet portrait with a good composition.

Absolutely gorgeous child, and she is just lovely in the soft light. Depth of field seems razor thin - I honestly would have loved to have seen more sharpness on all those tendrils of hair in the light. Beautiful shot though!

this is great, just wish I could see the eye detail better. try dodging a little in the eyes..

face feels too dark, particularly around the eyes, maybe dodge there a little to bring the shadows up, then the eyes themselves to give them a little "pop"? Cute girl, I'll bet it was fun to spend time with her no matter what I think of the photo! :-)

What a soft, sweet portrait. Those eyes! wish they were just a tad bit lighter, but really, be proud of this shot. 8

Classic elegance in a children's portrait

great image... depth of field is a little too shallow for me but otherwise well done... :)

oh so cute, her little freckles on her nose. She reminds me of the little models they use for pears soap. beautiful, good luck

lovely little girl, great expression. I would have like to see a catch light in her eye. Without it the eyes look "dead" It looks like there may be a faint one, you might try and enhance it with your dodging tool. The catch light is one of the most important parts of a portrait.

beautiful little girl

She is too cute to be real! What a PERFECT specimen of "little girl" !!! Good luck!

Beautiful child! Would like to see more light on her face to get those beautiful blue to pop out. Low light also causes reddness in the face...this little lady looks like she has a sunburn.

What a beauty! I think this would be more effective if you cropped her from the neck down, concentrating on those apple cheeks and big eyes. Maybe a different angle to get some light into those eyes?
09/12/2005 10:15:36 AM
She's gorgeous! A fill-in flash and a bit more of DOF would have made this better!
09/12/2005 09:38:36 AM
need a reflector to bounce light back to her eyes,
09/12/2005 09:03:20 AM
Beautiful, looks like a porcelain doll! A little bit of fill flash would add a catchlight in her eyes, making her look more lively. 7

Her bangs seem to be the focal point, indicating misfocus. Traditionally, eyes are the sharpest and most important feature in portraiture.

What a BEAUTIFUL little girl! I LOVE the curls and the expression. Would have been a 10 if the focus was better, and the eyes were better lit, but a 7. Its cute!
