I had envisioned this image like this: Standing and starting with arms extended high above the head and then fanning the hands down so as to create an angelic wings like effect and then to finish in the prayer position. I shot it in my basement and because of backdrop limitations I had to curtail the effect to what you see.

This effect can not be done without interference. That is if you shoot the arms in different positions then by the time that you do the final image (hands in prayer position) your body is overexposed. here then is how the effect is achieved.

For those who participated in the double exposure mentorship the answer may seem easy because we are playing with that infamous 1st zone. The details: you cover your face and body with a black cloth leaving your arms exposed. I used one single light source, a typical strobe direct and fired after 3 secs per shot and changing the arm positions accordingly. The camera is set for a 20 second exposure and after the last hand position, the cloth is removed and the other two strobes are activated. The prayer position is assumed and then all three strobes are fired in unison for the final effect. One of the few images that required only 5 takes.
The main problem is remembering where your arms where when overhead. In two of the shots the arms overlapped the head too much. For those interested in these effects please read the "Double Exposure" thread and do the simple exercise of shooting yourself with the white and black mask as outlined. The concept is then understood and will be present in the undertow of the unconscious which will one day rise to help you achieve the image of your choice. The application is truly unlimited.

Your such an artist. The time you take to implement an emotive shot is certainly appreciated by those who admire your work. Your hand positioning is perfect the way it comes down to the table. Amazing.
