Red and green still life taken in the window of an old shed with morning light...stood on gooseneck part of my horse trailer and shot straight as I could at the window many times and at many angles; watched the lighting change as sunlit areas slowly moved over the window and liked this shot the best of maybe 30 attempts..levels, shadow/highlights, cropped, unsharp mask, brightness/contrast...I know many people will not like the darkness in background but the simplicity and lighting that I used reminded me of a painting. As an aside, I was looking later for the pears to eat, couldn't find them in house and realized I had left them sitting in shed window.

Post challenge comment: I'm delighted that many people saw the idea of a painting in this image...this is what I wanted to achieve; what more can be said..except, thank you for seeing something of art in my vision.

This really does look like a fine old painting. Love the colors and textures. I really liked your description of how you shot it, too...LOL...sounds like how I shoot things out here in the country. Exceptional image...well done! :)

Elegant solution to the challenge and a really wonderful composition. Didn't vote (maybe because I'm colourblind!), but I would have given this 10, I promise.

I really like the simplicity of this, the wood frame on right and bottom only works really well, and the placement of the pears for the specific colors to be shown is done really well - good work!

I like this image's simplicity. So I guess, in some ways, it is the totally black background that makes it for me.

Print quality shot. Reminds me of those inspirational prints people buy: "the passage of time may change your colors but family always remains by your side"

One of the most original and beautiful entries: the arrangement of the pears defies most other displays exhibited in the competition. I also like the shadows and the courtyard atmosphere, the blackened wood, the color of the pears...

Like this image, but personally I think a crop to lose some of the black space accross the top would help a little. The pears themselves are really nice and I like the arrangment too.

I'll pretend that is red on the pears even though it is not red on my monitor. I like the composition--the wood and the simplicity.

Colors, composition, and objects are lovely and interesting to look at. I like that you have the three pairs resting on a old window wood frame - the texture of the wood adds additional interest to this "Still Life" capture. Lighting is very good on the main subjects. My only critique is that there is to much 'blank space' floating around the main subject of focus. Cutting down that 'empty' black space by say half to get a closer crop or zoom in on the three pears would have improved the overall image.

I didn't comment on this until I came back for a second review. Not only did I up the score but the more I look at it, the better it is. This would make an awesome print. The frame of the old rotting wood is great. The light bouncing off of the pear on the right pear is a nice touch. The glow of the other two really makes for interesting appeal. It is quite artfully done. The use of negative space is spot on. 10
