This is the SunCraft (Sólfar in Icelandic), by Jón Gunnar Árnason (b. 1931, d. 1989) - a metal skeletal structure which lies on the shore of Reykjavik the capital of Iceland. This is a big tourist attraction and is probably one of the most photographed spots in Iceland.

I originally had the idea for the "from the ground up challenge". I liked the viewpoint and the composition but I wasn't satisfied with the results. On the last day for submissions for the "My corner of the world" challenge I was driving by the sculpture and saw that the lighting was good, the sky was dark and dramatic. I made the viewpoint as low as possible by holding the camera vertically to the ground.

The post processing is the most extensive work I have done for any challenge so far using layers, which is new to me.

I did submit another shot of this sculpture a year ago for the "Travel Guides" challenge.

The Viking ship at night

Some of those who commented were wondering about the size of the sculpture, here is a photo that shows its size, shot from a straight viewpoint, including a person for scale:

Beautiful B/W conversion, moody post-processing. "Our" 10-22mm lens is rapidly rising to the top as the landscape lens of choice, LOL. I take it this is a modern sculpture of the bare bones of a Viking longship? More information would be wonderful.

This is an excellent photo and one of my few tens for this challenge. This object has appeared in challenges here before and I know it's some sort of modern sculpture in Iceland. I would love to find out what/why it is. If you could tell me or link me to some information about it's origin and purpose, I would appreciate it. It's truly a beautiful work. I have yet to see a photo of this that creates a perspective to show it's true size. I imagine that it's rather large...
