Challenge: Personification (Basic Editing III)
Camera: Canon EOS-20D
Lens: Canon EF 75-300mm f/4.0-5.6 II
Location: Another dark room in Missouri
Date: Oct 7, 2005
Aperture: f6.3
ISO: 100
Shutter: 2

Date Uploaded: Oct 7, 2005

The set-up:
slide projector, sunset transparency, make-shift scrim (lg. picture frame & white sheet)styrofoam board, two corkscrews (male & female):), two scale trees (borrowed), and various Barbie accessories (also borrowed).

This took up more room that I first thought. The projector was in one room, I was in another, and everything you see is in the hallway in between. The trick was to place the corkscrews at the right distance so that their "heads" were flush with the camera while their "arms" wet at a natural angle.
The props weren't necessary to convey the feeling I wanted, but it did do a couple of other things. One, it filled some empty space and two, I liked how it brought things full circle. Two corkscrews that I "humanized" driking wine. What did they open the bottle with?
The texture or artifact that you see in the background...well that's my boneheaded mistake. I had too much DOF & I started picking up the texture of the sheet.

If I had CS2 when this challenge was announced my entry would have looked like this.//www.dpchallenge.com/image.php?IMAGE_ID=374266

The tilt doesn't enhance the image. Photo and challenge-wise, it's average.

Very cute. There appears to be some artifact in the background. Was it a picture? or was that a real sunset? I think "romance" counts as Personification for the challenge. 7

As a collecter of antique corkscrews, I compliment you on your selection. You have a very masculine and very feminie corkscrew which adds greatly to you illusion. You have an eye for detail.

I've changed my mind on this one....I moved you from a 5 to a 9 because even though you set up the corkscrews, they are still human looking even if they were just laying on the counter. I think I can even see that the male is on the left.

Good job.

Very nice representation. Not much you can do with the background with basic editting. The sun throws the image off kilter since no other focus point is in the rule of thirds to balance this out. A slightly different crop may of helped, but a different angle for the same photo with this in mind would eliminated this problem for me. 7.
