Went out to the golf course to take some night photos with my friend.. while she was taking photos on the hill I told her to hold still for 30 seconds! (made her do it a couple times)....so thank you sarah ;)!

Thanks everyone for commenting and 1st place :)..ohh and it was great to learn the name of the stars!!!

Here is a poem jsas wrote for my photo (thanks!)

"Night Falls"

Night falls
as the sun sets
the blue light
exposes sillouettes
the stars are bright
and dot the sky
clear and perfect
for a sparkling eye
the simple beauty
of an evening watch
no telescope needed
to see so much
just step outside
and hear the calls
of the sun's farewell
as the night falls.

Jeff

Congrats on a well deserved First Place. I love the deep blue tones and the movement in the sky; having your friend's silohouette adds so much, that was a great touch.

Spectacular image. Great sillouhette. Sky looks very realistic and the photographer ads nice point of interest. The only suggestion - I would have cloned out the reddish glow in the lower left corner. I wish you win ribbon.

I always look for two things in a photo entry. The first, is does the photo draw the "oh my god" out of me the moment I see it. the second is, I ask myself "would I hang this on my wall?" In both cases the answer is an astounding yes! Well done.

Fantastic. You've made a great job of this - Must've been pretty difficult to achieve. Plus, you can see the Plieades! I like this one a lot.

Since I know the sky, I can tell that this is a decent "wide" shot. I also like the way you've caught lots of stars even though it appears to be verrrryyyy early after sunset. The fact that the lower sky is not overexposed amazes me! I'm going to have to try this one day. Solid 8 from me.

A wonderful image. Nice sharp silhouette. Awesome composition (a nice rule of thirds rule breaker!) Wonderful colours. My only nit is the flash of colour at the bottom left corner. Because it is so different from the rest of the image, it stands out very much and as such, is a bit distracting to me. Overall, a very good job.

Alright, this is VERY nice. Great picture plus it's this good due to the wide angle lens. Awesome job exposing for the sky and stars. The person on the ground adds great interest as well. Not nearly as good a picture without him/ her. This ribbons in my book...10.

breathtaking! i've seen many photos of amateur astronomers silhouetted against the night sky, but few that have done as nice a job as this. beautiful colour, detail in the sky. nice chioce to centre on pleiades. i'd consider cloning out the satellite streaks for prints. excellent work!!

Very nice capture of Mars, the Pleiades, and Hyades. Nice work capturing the sense of false dawn from the city lights to the east. Collapsing the horizon right to the bottom of the frame gives a great sense of wide-open-ness. I really like your use of the sillouetted phtographer/astronomer as a catch. Bummer that noise smoothing ended up cancelling out some of the fainter stars that were likely evident. But I know how the "too much noise" responses can be an incentive.
