This is the Monument to the Victims of Tyranny and War, on Unter den Linden in Berlin. The town seems to be full of monuments one way or another - Liebeskind's Jewish Life museum, the Holocaust Memorial, Checkpoint Charlie (for all the crass touristicness, most of Hildebrandt's work remains impressive and valuable), the Topoggraphy of Terror site with the only remaining part of the Wall ...

For me the city remains central to the process of growing up. I was 21 when the wall came down, and it and what it symbolised was the overriding concern of all our political lives as I grew up. To meet, and live for a very short while amonst the East Berlin/German people has been a wonderful thing.

This one is like a story. I wish there was a button to add an image as a 'super favorite'... I would have added this one:-)

Did not vote, nor even look at the entries. This is sublime, subtle and stylish and so wins my S-S-Special Hindsight Blue Ribbon (a very rare & quite worthless award). Surely the man in the overcoat is Richard Harris?

I love this scene, I love this photo. I love the stark contrast between the sculpture, the room, and the people. I love the triple play on wods, here I am contemplating a picture of people contemplating a sculpture of someone contemplating.

I've got to say it again, I love the whole set up, the coloring in the people's clothes vs. the greys of the surroundings. This is a personal fave of this contest. Exceptionally well done.

The way this fellow is leaning on to the side of the person next to him makes you almost hear them whispering their comments about the figure of their admiration. Wonderful composition really. Good work.

Awesome WA capture of this place as you can really feel the largenss of its dimensions. Tones are very nice and I like the dramatic lighting. However, I find the people to be distracting because you seem to have captured them at a random moment. The man has his back to us and is talking to another person.

unique subject, great sense of space around the people/statue, use of color fits the minimal theme, one of my ribbon picks

this is a great use of space - looks like a still life - as if the people are statuesque too ... 7

Great photo here! Interesting subjects and contrasts in the colours. I wonder if it wouldn’t have been more effective with one person say sitting in front of the statue in a similar pose. Anyway, just a thought. Good job! :>)

This image almost slipped past me. Very strong technically but not really striking visually until you look at it for a moment. I really am glad I slowed down enough to pay attention to this one. Its superb. A 10 from me.

Good Luck! =)

This would be really interesting without the people in there! But I love it just the same - nice shot. The hidden person is a little distracting.

Very good, was about to say "too centered" but I think it works. A bit ambivalent on the selective coloring, maybe all b/w would work well too. NIce picture!

I like this very much. I might like it more if the blue coat were desatted a bit more, but all in all it's an intrigiuning image that keeps me looking. I liek that no faces are visible.
