Excellent idea and brilliantly realised. I'll have to give this a go sometime. Thanks for sharing how it was done. I like the face as it appears quite ghostly, which is a good effect.

All,
Thanks for all the constructive and supporting comments. With this being my first ribbon, I was really jazzed when the scores started to pour in! Let the addiction begin! I wasn't going to submit to this challenge given my low interest in self portraitures, but I thought of this at the last minute. I purposefully introduced some blur and over saturation - if I had a better subject, I would do things a little differently. To answer some questions, the bulb is resting directly on a computer display containing the portrait - pretty simple. Thanks again,
Jerry

How did you suspend the lightbulb in the air?

I agree with this - and for me the face should have matched the rest of the image quality (it being a self-portrait challenge and all!). The bulb itself is great.

somehow mised this first time round.

good idea, the face spoils it though (only in my opinion) as it's very noisy an a bit wishy washy.

the remaining image is pin sharp - clear and worthy of a winners ribbon.

Nice, nice effect. Especially like the weird and interesting colors that the shot made out of your face, against the shadows/coolness of the background.

You should score very highly with this one, maybe #1. Having waded through all the portraits, many stunningly good, yours stands out as being the most creative and inventive. My favourite this challenge! Brilliant dof, it's incredible how sharp everything is, while still being fairly dark. Great concept. Impressive lighting. 10

You achieved a slightly eerie but spectacular effect. It reminds me a little of a game I played on the Amiga years ago: Supremacy. The detail in the bulb is fantastic. The choice of colors is wonderful. This is definitely one of my favorite pictures of this challenge. (9)
