I found this dead leaf on the beach at Lake Taupo today. The amazing fragile structure was totally intact. My title is from my Biology days at school. I did learn something after all!

I love the colours and the delicacy of the leaf veins.

Nice close up of the leaf and well positioned. I think a bright light behind it may have shown it as being more transparent, maybe even fully back lit. Great focus in the centre showing those nice patterns.

It is almost like the leaf contains a hidden story in some strange language.

phloem. sorry just wanted to say phloem. phloem must be living in order to function. i think xylem is a great title. great macro and colors. one of my favorites in the challenge.

intriguing photo - more translucent than trasnparent though.

hmmm.... don't know what do say about it. It leaves room for me to think. in that case, this is a great photo. interesting texture. DOF is a little too thin.

Good macro, I just can't help feeling that the leaf is ugly. A little throw light as back fill would help it a lot too

Nice macro and capture of the delicate patterns. That bit of dark spot at the top left area of your photo distracts my eyes, but again, good macro.

Great shot, novel slant on transparency

The delicacy of this shot is stunning. The only downside to it is the slightly soft section to the left of the leaf. I feel that this would be even stronger were the whole of the leaf in sharp focus.

The good: Great idea. The focus plane is sharp:
To work on: The vignette in the corner detracts as does the out of focus portion. Use a deeper DOF.

great detail shot of that xylem (??)! like the composition and the blue background. the rust colorsare a bit distracting for me, but i also don't really know if that's just part of the xylem or if it could be edited out.

Real nice picture...got to love the detail. If you look close it almost looks like little figures/writting..
