Photograph Information Photographer's Comments
Challenge: Landscape II (Basic Editing III)
Camera: Canon EOS-10D
Lens: Canon EF 17-40mm f/4L USM
Location: Grindavík, Iceland
Date: Nov 3, 2005
Aperture: f/4.5
ISO: 800
Shutter: 20
Date Uploaded: Nov 4, 2005

My second attempt with the northern lights. This time with a foreground!

Converted to LAB-color, added a few curves, used the shadow/highlight tool to brighten the mountains, reduced image noise, and smart sharpen after resize.

Post-challenge:
Thanks for all the comments folks, really appreciate those. I'd also like to note I'm quite happy with my score. :-)

I posted the unaltered version of this picture in a thread.

This is very nice. my only minor contention is the overshapenning which catches the eye and forces it to trace the entire contour of the mountains. I like it because of its graphical representation. very well done.

This shot is stunningly beautiful. I love how you captured the Northern lights as they seem to rise from the sky and then strike the mountain and bounce off into the sea of stars.

Phenomenal at the least. Thanks for sharing. This must be intense light since the start did not streak. The crop is great. It is nice to see the foreground for size prespective.

Very cool capture. The composition is excellent. I only wish the mountains looked a little more natural. The greenish reflection they seem to have caught makes them look kindof wierd.

Simply an amazing shot, I know with the limited editing it is hard to get the noise out of the night shots, this is amazing. Great image!
