I will say no more than Superglue! Don't worry, They were dead.

Wow, finally a blue ribbon. This time of year on warm sunny days we get inundated with ladybugs outside the house. Many make it inside as well. I was finally able to put them to use! I hope I did not disappoint anyone who thought that I chanced upon this scene. I suppose I very well could have if I had the time to look. My wife is used to me doing unusual things to get a good picture for these challenges. I think gluing ladybugs to a leaf may have been just a little over the edge and yet she did not bat an eye! I thank her for putting up with me and I thank everyone for your comments and for my ribbon.

This was before my time here... and I'm only just now seeing it.

Don't listen to the folks who are upset because you set it up. If I were a dead bug, I'd be THRILLED that someone thought I was still interesting enough to be beautiful and useful.

:D

One of my favorite photos on the site. Love the way the top edge of the mound of dead ladybugs leads the eye.

Very creative imagination. lol (Reminds me of the guys I work with...they'd catch flying bugs and superglue a string to them and then attach them to their toolboxes. You'd walk into the hangar and see all these bugs flying around in circles and had to laugh.)
Congratulations on your blue ribbon. A great capture! I am glad they were already dead, though. :)

It's a very cool picture, but I must admit I would have been disappointed had I voted for a ribbon and then read about the superglue afterwards. A great idea for sure, but not a real capture of nature, no?

I used a pair of tweezers under the ladybugs wings to hold them up and then used the superglue under the wings to get them to stay. It took a while for the glue to dry so I was walking around the house with it. A strange site you can imagine! Getting this one to sit on top of the heap was the hardest part. He kept falling to the ground and getting the positioning correct was difficult but perserverence paid off.

Wow, what a nature capture! I wonder how you found so many bugs at one place. The one with the open wings makes the photo live, I also like composition and DOF. A photo which has a true story, good luck!

rare and exciting image, should be in a childrens book. could use more contrast color with BG, top 5 shot.

11/12/2005 12:52:13 PM
Nails the topic. Color, lighting, DOF and focus are all right where they should be, and you've made it special by capturing the "moment" of takeoff. I'd probably crop a little more off the top and bottom, but what would REALLY improve this shot is a ribbon next to the title. ;-) 10

A great capture. Was the white on the ladybugs naturally that shade of orange or is it bleed from post-processing? That's my biggest complaint and you might not even have had anything to do with it. I'll tell you I have another of the "bug dead end" pics and was hoping to use ladybugs, but couldn't find any. :( 9
