Great Job Martin as always. Say hello to the misses for me. You can join my 4th place club (4 time inductee for me).

Cheers,

Jacques.

Missed a spot in the top 3 by a hair for the second time... LOL!!!

Thanks everyone for the nice comments. I understand my photography can be weird or provocative to some on DPC, and I take this rank 4 as a great compliment from everybody.

To answer some of the questions, this is a real model wearing a latex catsuit, gloves and hood. The model can breathe through holes at her nostrils. I photoshoped them out to add to the "doll illusion". I did this photo for DPC and not for any other project. I wanted to experiment with the B&W and create a special atmosphere with the low-key technique and this model in latex. The suit is black. The background too. Big main source light on the left (6 foot softbox flash) and one backlight on the right.
We shot for 30 minutes. After that, the model was exhausted. It's not easy to shoot in this outfit, blind... and it can get very warm during these summer days.

Martin

The only person I know of with access to such outfits is the Doctor. Great picture. Weird.....but very cool.

What an interesting mage! At first I thought this was a statue or figurine, but I think it is a real person. Tell me if I'm wrong!! I'll be 38 on Tuesday, so I'm kind of out of the fashion loop. I haven't seen clothes like this where I buy my Levi's and button downs! LOL Great pose, lighting is excellent, meets the challenge well. The areas that are blown out are a plus for this image due to the material/plastic the suit is made out of. I've never known anyone who actually knows a real super hero. Once the challenge is over, could I get an autograph??? Electronic autograph is fine... jdanderson1002@cs.com
Wonderful creativity and execution. I have to give it a 10, even though that will diminish my chances of getting a top 3!!
(PS looks like one of magnetics' shots!)

.....bold subject matter ....... slippery and shiny.... appreciate the definition in space, which could have been lost with less awareness and sensitivity of the background....... The subtle frame works perfect with the image.

Very very nice.

Great light range range from light to dark.

this is definitely the kind of contrast i was looking for in this challenge. the bright highlights work really well here to outline and abstract the subject. my only gripe is that i think it'd like to see the background be completely black (though not quite as black as the latex). the part of the background that goes to gray on the left side kind of unbalances the image a bit. good work overall. 8.

I'm speechless...8

Interesting lighting. The dark parts and highlighting here and there seem to really add to the whole composition.
It does feel cold however, with the face hidden behind latex.

Lighting is just right, and the textures you've contrasted work well together.

This is my favorite of the whole challenge. I hope it wins!

What did you have to promise to make her do this?
06/20/2003 01:47:54 PM
If the background were flat black instead of a grey gradient, this would probably be a 10 for me. As is, 8.

Wow, what a figure! Emma Peel in bondage...(!)
I feel that you missed the opportunity to explore the moodiness and darkness that a low-key image could have produced, IMO there are too many highlights, and not enough exploration of the darker tones. The glares don't work for me here. Other than that, very arresting photo! 8

Jones? nice lighting on this one. i am stuck wondering if the latex suit is actually black...
06/20/2003 03:31:49 AM
Woaw....Impressive photo !! Don't know how she can breathe, but I hope for her that she didn't has to pose for a long time !. To quality, fits perfectly my idea of a "Black on Black" picture !

A DrJones portrait? This is wonderful, the black (latex?) is so form fitting, you can see the every movement, against the grey background, which technically is a shade of black it's very well done. the lighting, everything is well done here. If that is indeed a real person, which I assume it is, how does she breath? -10-

Beautiful Dr. Jones. How do you get to be so lucky? Perfect lighting, nice depth of field. 10.
