Photograph Information Photographer's Comments
Challenge: Dead End (Advanced Editing IV)
Collection: Portfolio
Camera: Canon EOS-10D
Location: home
Date: Nov 6, 2005
Aperture: 6.7
ISO: 100
Shutter: 180 / with strobe
Galleries: Emotive
Date Uploaded: Nov 6, 2005

My problem here was first the angle and then to downplay the fog which is only used for lighting assistance rather than for effect. A slight perpective tweak was used to enhance the feeling. Perhaps I could have done better to illuminate the hands but it had to remain mostly a silhoutte to impart its flavor. I entered this image rather than its more commercial counterpart because of its artistic feel which do not do well since the voters are looking for photography and not art per se.

a fine work - and the centered composition is outwayed by the leading lines.

Beautiful Daniel! Should have placed much much much higher! But this is a fine piece which should be hanging in a gallery somewhere!

I was one of your 4 tens daniel, and so, so underrated in my opinion. I would have never guessed it as your work, but I LOVED it!

amidst the mystic smokey reds

Visceral and raw. I usually feel this kind of 'tortured and angst-ridden' artistic pose is too self-indulgent to be more than superficially interesting, but this one is pretty good. Such a terrific title! Also a very clever crop; suggests you are confident about the meaning of your work. It has a nicely distorted look to it, too. Reminds me a bit of 'The Scream' by Edvard Munch, for some reason. 8.

Nice picture, conveys the title wonderfully. Interesting lighting, looks like hate subsiding.

Rather than a dead end, the first thing that came to mind was some David Blaine-like magician. I think it's the red lighting and fog. I have a feeling this will do well with many of the voters.

It's a weird distortion effect and I'm gonna try to start rewarding that "out of the box" mentality. It doesn't do too much else for me though. Works as an album cover (thinking Manson here) though...
