Well, this is fairly similar in some ways to the last shot I entered - but I realised I didn't have a decent colour photo of my grandfather, so I arrived at his house the other day, hung up a black sheet, laid out a stool, and asked him to put on the hat. After that his natural clowning around instinct takes over and I just did my best to get a good shot.

By the way - in case you can't clearly tell, he only has one eye...hence the title.

Yes...I have noticed that most of the people shots I've entered here on dpc involve a black background, I would have liked to do something about that, but what can I say - I like this shot.

I gave this a 7. Excellent reading/insight of your comments. You now have a very good portrait of your grandfather. If it took a 'photo challenge competition' to get it, so be it, either way, it is now 'captured'. You have something special here that no words can explain.

Great color of skin tones , like the tilt and angle of subject that is set well against the black. Good luck on this eye popping study. -8-

The light is just perfect for showing off the texture in the gentleman`s skin & clothing. The plain dark background is a great backdrop also.

Such character. I like how you didnt try to smooth anything out, and the light just hilights every crease.

A portrait of a man whom we can see the effects of time and experience that shows us a 'roadmap' of a life lived. What makes this gentleman stand out of a normal crowd is the fact he has just one eye. It is a little unsettling to observe at first but then one gets to wondering how this man's life experiences lead to his appearance - there is a story there waiting to be told. My critique on this photo is that I think you could fill more of the frame with the man and get rid of the negative space on the left. A closer crop on just a head shot would improve the photo and keep the eye's attention directly focused on the main subject.

With all the things that photoshop can do, couldn't you fix this gentleman up a little?

;-) Very nice.
