This is more or less what I did:

Straightened, cropped, increased contrast a fair bit, cloned out a few dust-spots. Resized, converted to b/w, ran through noise reduction, worked a bit with the "burn" tool (first time for me) to try and make it a bit more dramatic. All in PSP9.

Wow! You weren't just talkin' trash in the Adulthood scores thread. You really WERE up there. I'm always amazed at people like you and JJ who can make something beautiful out of a scene that I'd probably drive right past. Congrats on the red- this should have scored higher (.01 higher). ;-P

Let me add to all the other people who said this would've been great for the Industrial challenge. You should have... um... oh. Nevermind.

Wow. That would be what life is like if you submit to society's anti-life society. School and tactless work entailed.

I knew my bump here would have buried my image, but hey, when you are good you are good and this is an outstanding image whose title touches a nostalgic stream in all adults. Congratulations on your RED. Certainly beats mine.

Good premise and well shot...maybe a bit too much NI? But not sure of course. Doesn't really bother me all that much...gives a bit of nightmarish quality that you may have been going for....reality does bite but there always something, hopefully beautiful off in the distance that you work towards and maybe leave the reality behind....the bit of mountain and great cloudscape say that to me. Well done.

wow, this would have been an easy top 10 in the Industrial challenge! This is an amazing photo - but I don't see a strong link with the challenge theme here.

This is a nice picture. It would have done very well in industrial, too.

A little too much dodge/burn (or whatever you used to darken the sky) for my taste. Also not really fond of the clipping of the smoke and lower part of the factory but you seem to know what you are doing so I just assume there is nothing to the right or bottom that is worth seeing. 7 from me.

Very nice picture. Love the clouds and the smoke stack. Great effects. The "abandoned" feeling is perfect.

This was my only 10. It looks so sleak and dark and perhaps fits the title all too well. Great capture. :)

WOW! Stunning is all I can say about this study in b/w. 10 from me. I'm guessing this would have killed in the Industrial challenge.

absolutely gorgeous. how did you achieve this feel to your b&w treatment?

11/28/2005 04:55:05 PM
The stark reality of aduthood. Get a good education or work in the factories (although that option is mostly in the past). Good luck on this industrial image. -10-

I love the tones in this image. I'm not crazy about the crop though - too tight on the bottom. I had a similar idea that I didn't pull off. 6

Love this sky in this one. I'm not sure what that is in the lower left. Aside from the title, how does this imply adulthood?
