Yes that is me...I love dancing! I was trying to think of something that is unusual for a collection and came up with that! I hope you all enjoy it!

How I haven't commented on this I have no idea, or I can't find it in the comments. This has been in my favorites for a long time, I think this is one of the best challenge entries I have come across since I have been here and fit the challenge to the tee. It is a wonderful shot.

Love this portrait shot! The lighting cast upon the subject is soft and complementry. It illuminates exactly what it needs too at the same time shining the spotlight upon the main subject. I look upon this photograph and can almost think of it as a portrait painting - a study on the life of a dancer/ballerina. All those shoes that she holds represent all her experiences as a dancer - all the untold hours spent practicing and perfecting her craft. Very visually interesting and compelling to look upon.

W-oah! That's some serious balance someone's got there. Is this you or a model? Sorry, I'm bad with faces. I would love to see some more details in the shot description.

Fantastic shot! It definitely looks like the subject is floating as the center of balance doesn't seem right. Nice.

Deserved the blue in my opinion...this is a stunning, professional shot and the light in the background makes it almost 3D. Goes in my favourites...

Simply Delicious
Pointe dancing is a crucial dramatic element, essential to the telling of the story. The dancer appears to fly with an ethereal lightness and delicacy, as numerous sylphs, sprites and nymphs.

::: Critique Club :::
I'd like to ask firstly why you say you don't comment on your photos, yet you are asking Critique Club to do so? It is difficult to do a proper critique without your input and it would normally take at least half an hour to 45mins to do it properly.

First Impression - the most important one:
Very stunning. When first opening it, I didn't see the collection of shoes, I thought it was just a very good protrait.

Composition:
Perfect, thirds used to perfection.

Subject:
Unusual and therefore captivating. You've met the challenge so well and have still managed to make the image a piece of art.

Technical (Colour and light):
Two things. The fade to black all around the POI is terrific. It's that which gives so much power to the shoes in particular.

Secondly, the spot on the background throws everything into a 3D dimension and is a very professional touch

Summary:
Stunning image, one that any professional photographer would be proud to have in their portfolio

Brett

So glad this won a ribbon. Very nice composition and well done photo. Despite the fact I can relate to this on many levels, the presence of the subject is strong and very well presented. Well done!

Dear Angela, wonderful shot, gave it a 10. The model is great, the link for "collection" is so well chosen by all the shoes. Composition is perfect according to the rules of thirds. What I'm not sure about is: The light spot in the center background. Maybe another background lightning would have enhanced the attention on the collection even more. Well done. Yours, Jan

I do too - always. I bet you like reading the comments of others if there's an image that you enjoy and would like to know more about.

For this image, I'm interested in your lighting setup as it is just so perfect. How did you manage to set the camera and get into position so perfectly?

Ok, I never add my own comments. But since I finally got a ribbon I think I should.

My DPC friends helped me finalize my shot...I got their opinions and I used them...it obviously did me some good!

Dance is one of my all time favorite thing to do...it was Sunday and I still didn't have anything to do for either challenge. Then I thought I have tons of costumes and lots of pointe shoes...how can I make that into something interesting. So i found an old costume that suprisingly still fit, put it on and asked some opinions on how to make it interesting....used every idea that came to my mind and the minds of others and shot them. Looked at all of them on the computer, did basic editting and asked all my IM friends which shot they liked best...most of them chose this one...

Thanks ya'll

Almost poetic and by far my most favorite entry in this challenge. Bumping up. Well, I replaced a similar image in old shoes with another way back. This is the way i should have done it. Bumping up to 10.

this is very nice... but a bit sombre. i think youèd have an interesting effect has you used a realy fair-to-pale skinned subject, it would heighten the contrast and make her look more delicate. im still giving it a 10

A truly lovely way to display a collection. The shot is most excellently composed but your model...wow...to look so relaxed and calm while crouched down and en pointe!
The only thing that distracts me in this photo is the slight glare off the backdrop and how it washes out portions of her skirt.
