Post Challenge: Whoo Hoo!! Who'da thought that a late night foray to the local power plant could be so cool!! I actually wanted to take a night pic of this for a while but never got around to it. This challenge was the perfect reason to make myself go and it was a bonus that it was so cold that night. The steam was coming off the water too. The lake is actually the "cooling tower" for this particular plant so it's warm water. A favorite of the local windsurfers.

I have to hand it to my father who answered the phone at 11:30 at night because I couldn't find the right turn off! Glad he's a night owl too....

Thanks for all the beneficial comments and of course the votes too!

If you just sit and watch a factory put out smoke you begin to realize how much pollution is being thrown into our atmosphere. Comepletly redick! Nice way to display this ongoing problem. Good pic.

I knew I recognized this power plant! I did one of my senior projects at the cooling pond about 10 years ago. Really like the shot. It looks like it was a moonless/cloudless night. Very well done.

Nice photo, congrats on the ribbon.

That's not far from me but I've never seen that place. Is it Farmington lake? or someplace else

9 - Ohh - very good. Criticism; ahh, not much, maybe a little more space to the left if possible, may have made this even better. Really like the lighting and composition and fore 'silhouette' with the grass. Another where the size wouldn't do it justice, but that's part of the game. I think it is just the shadowing on the water(?) on the left, but seems this might need the slightest fraction nudge rotation up on the left, but I think it is just the shadow/whatever - apologies if wrong. Great shot and 'effect(s)'. Up to 9 from 8.

Exquisite! I'm sure the owner's of this manufacturing plant never thought look so utterly captivating! Sepia? treatment is just perfect...Hope it's a winner. If not, you still deserve a thousand pats on the back for this one!

I like the way the smoke "flows" over the lit buildings, it's really a nice extra touch that add dynamism to the image.
