This gives a real feel of what city life is like. Good photo.

I wish the garbage can was completely vertical. But I still like this shot. Good capture of the "laziness" of the city.

OK, I know you can't actually move the trash can, but I wish it could have moved down the sidewalk about 6 feet toward you. Then you could have had this nice contrast between a trash can just sitting there and all this garbage on the street. I would suggest that you moved forward the 6 feet, but then it looks like there would be all sorts of toher stuff in the shot to serve as distractions. Anyway, nice lines -- the trash can is just a wish. :-)

Nice idea. I'm not sure I can connect the title to the image, though.

Original way to show city life and very well framed/cropped.

nice shot. interesting interpretation of "city life". a bit overexposured because some of the paper is totally white.
photo 8, creativity 8, city life 8 = 8

Sad but true. I like the diagonal leading my attention along the trash in the gutter. If my eyes are not fooling me, the overall photograph looks soft focus, I feel this picture screems sharp detail, look at this filth. I wuold have used post process sharpening, just my opinion.

a better view of the trash can would make this contradiction even better

I ca't read the newspaper but I'm guessing this is in the USA?

Trash does tell a story about city life! (and us..)

typical in a lot of cities :) = 8 - jmsetzler

I love this idea. However, I would have put even more emphasis on the trash can to convey the irony.

sad statement. seems tilted to the right. i hope this is not an exemplar of your city's life.

Well composed shot of a nasty subject. This is so very well done, but the subject matter is soooo difficult to "grade you up" to the number you really deserve. (contraditory, I know) (part of my grade is "would I hang this on my wall at home" criteria, and I wouldn't ever do that with this shot, but would I hope to see something like this in a gallery or such, certainly, just not in my house) Started out with a grade of 6 (all subject matter)
Photo 8 City 7 total 7 (upped you one grade point, should have done more, but the subject keeps me down.)

reminds me of home
06/25/2002 02:03:00 PM
wow... what city is this? I might have tried the shot a bit lower to the ground for a more dramatic look
06/25/2002 09:39:00 AM
Yuck! Love the diagonal line of the curb. I wish the trash can wasn't in the picture (especially since it makes me more frustrated that people don't just pick this mess up and throw it away). It could be a little brighter too.
06/24/2002 07:18:00 PM
Yeah, ;that's the city life I know.
06/24/2002 04:03:00 PM
Chop off the top two inches and I think it would be better. but that's just me.

Very nice composition. This photo says soooo much. I too thought of taking a photo of the trash all over, displaying the way people have absolutely no respect. The trash can really makes the message stand out. Great job, Bravo.

Bingo! Good shot. Well done all around. Kee

Yes, that's right, trash happens too-I'm interested in photos that show us what we don't usually look at. Good choice of subject, good framing. I'm grimly resigned. Maybe a bit angry, too.
06/24/2002 12:29:00 PM
sad but true : )

The longer I looked, the more I liked it. Garbage stretching on forever.
06/24/2002 01:38:00 AM
I don't think this is only seen in the city, but good concept and great picture (9)
06/24/2002 12:32:00 AM
Sadly, city life can be just like this. There is the pretty area and then the ugly side of it, too.
06/24/2002 12:32:00 AM
yummy garbage
