Took this shot on my way to Istanbul airport from the back of a taxi. This girl was playing on the wall and for a moment or two she stood perfectly still! Changed the hue a tad!

Ive gone through your b/w portfolio...where this image is also located...and I am truly impressed. You do a wonderful job capturing people. The older people and the lovers are especially nice. How grand the way you can go about your life stealing glimpses of strangers amd preserve their charm and energy for a lifetime.

Thank you to all who commented on this photograph, even the negative ones. I knew of course that most would find that it did not meet the challenge and it didn't at least in an overt way. However, after some consideration I decided that this would be the perfect image for speed as it shows that speed and motion are not always visible and that what we perceive as reality is not always so.

I took two shots of this girl, this one and one other which are on my web site under black and white - people.

Once again thanks for the comments!

You know, Chez, this is a very good picture and i like its sensitivity. I like it a whole lot more than a lot of high scoring pictures that screamed SPEED. Nice subtlety, nice mood, AND, for me, nice portrayal of speed :) I didn't vote on this challenge but i would have scored this very well.

I see a little bit of noise in the sky. It isn't bad. You might want to run it through Neat Image and see whether you like the results thereof better.

I feel there is a bit too much black at the bottom, also I would have like to see the girl a bit off-centre. Perhaps you could try cropping off some of the bottom and the right hand side (if the original file is large enough to allow this). Overall I like this picture - I'm just not sure it's right for this challenge.

A keeper. Very nice.

A thoughtful shot. I too conceived the speed of the earth/universe relationship, but I couldn't think of a good way to express it. This is an evokative interpretation although it doesn't really fulfill the brief of the challenge to give the sensation or illusion of speed. [6]

Lose the bush, level the horizon, raise the brats chin, submit this to a more relevant challenge subject.

Excellent shot! I imagine your seeing a few "doesn't meet the challenge" from folks that use too much speed when voting... This made me think a while! You get a 10 from me :)

Great picture. I'm not really sure where you are intending for us to see speed here. I like the silhouette and the warm color of the sky.

First thought, Chelsea pissed off at the fair. Second....... Beautiful picture, unique tranquility!

Few times that a border looks good (great) and really enhances the shot. Nice job, I like the tone of the sky, it fits well with the silloutte.

I like this very much. I DO see speed here. This concept is fun because everything is relative.

Great subject, Love the interpretation. The caption makes it for this contest, though.

Well, I saw this photo yesterday and thought about it when I went to sleep, and I've come to the conclusion that I like it. The only thing that I would have done would have been to see what it looked like if she were standing with her back to the camera.

I love this shot - the composition is great I love the colors. I'm trying to figure out how it meets the challenge - speed of child growing up? speed of childhood passing by? In either case it doesn't meet the intent of the challenge as I see it. It is a great shot and a great addition to a portfolio, but not for this challenge (imho)

Different but I like it somehow- 9.

absolutely, the earth is moving anyway, right? and then there is visible wind, too... as far as the other aspects of this picture are concerned, i would rotate it 1 degree to the left, unless you liked it tilted... in general, i don't find it very interesting, but it's just me... 3

This is so beautiful. I can almost feel the wind :) good luck - 9

Stillness is not speed, I\'m afraid. It's a gorgeous image, though. If the topic were 'silhouettes' or 'children' or 'peace' I could easily give you 8-10.

love this image. wonderful composition!

Neat shot. The world is spinning around her, the air is moving her hair. I like this, not sure how the rest of the voters will react. I would of liked the bottom with a tighter crop....it gives more of an isolation feeling.......IMHO. :)
