Had beautiful frost coating on the trees out behind my house this morning so had to go and capture it.

Post-challenge comments:
Thanks to all who left comments. I live on the edge of a city. The fence that goes on to the edge of the horizon is 6 feet tall and is the dividing line between the start of city and the end of country, hence the title. The fence to me represents the barrier that some city folks put up not only to keep nature from encroaching but also between themselves to maintain a private space in a crowded world.

You know, a 4.97 with 14 ones and 12 twos is a pretty good score. Obviously there were a fair # of people who thought DNMC. What can you do? I do think this pic needs a little kick and have two possible suggestions.

You could do the pic in B&W which would emphasize the lines of the fence and the tangle of leafless branches. I looked at it in PS and it wasn't bad. The color of the fence is nice, but there isn't much color in the rest of the picture.

Second, and either color or B&W. You need a bit more contrast. +20 in PS was good, although you had to go back and erase the contrast on the snowy path because it blows out then. The rest of the picture, however, benefits from the contrast. Many of the pictures at this score that I comment on, need contrast.

Finally a subject on the right as well might have helped. A person walking perhaps. My photos tend to be like this and not have anybody in them, but I'm starting to appreciated what even a small figure can do for the shot.

Just a few ideas.

as mentioned - maybe stepping to the right, and letting the path and fence line converge in the distance could be much more powerful.

nice though !

Challenge
- Relevant to the Challenge? I didn't see it during the challenge, but your explanation makes sense. Unfortunately, I think that it needed explaining was your biggest hurdle in this challenge.
- Is subject unique (vs. unoriginal or rehashed)? Yes

Compostion
- Good or Bad? How can it be fixed? I can't decide if I want to see more of the tree on the right or less. More. I also think the shot would be more powerful if taken from a couple steps to the right. It would make the fence more dominant in the image. I like the climbers on the left.
- Good use of Depth of Field? Yes
- Good focus? Yes

Lighting
- Good use of light? Yes

Aesthetics/Artistic Appeal:
- Colors and Contrast The colors are muted, but to be expected from a cold winters day.
- Sharpness. Nicely done. No blurriness.
- What is my reaction or feelings? It reminds me of growing up in a suburban area of Indianapolis.

Edit: Er... Clod/Cold. I'm a clod the winter is cold...

Very interesting, I would have liked to see more of the woods in the right of the image.

The empty street or life on the edge gives this image it character......

I really like this shot. Others have captured the more populated aspects of city life...but, this side need not be forgotten as well! Love how your eye circles around in the picture to view everything! GREAT job!

Composition is ok. The image quality is ok. The subject matter could have been better.

to me this doesnt portray "city life" because there's no people, cars, buildings, or any sign of "life" around.....outside this challenge it is a great shot though, cool perspective!
