Well after a long hiatus, here's a simple entry of a shot of my wife in a traditional Korean dress (hanbok). I didn't set the WB very well as the top has a warm yellow cast, instead of being white.

Lighting consists of a 1000 watt softbox above and to her right - I need to buy some backgrounds!

- RAW to JPG
- resize and crop
- levels
- clone/heal blemishes and stray hair
- selective desaturation
- photo filter Violet to tone the desaturated areas
- more levels tweaking to increase contrast
- gothic glow blended to 40% opacity
- adjust hue/saturation
- USM
- save jpg

I knew this would place well. Extremely well taken and edited. You've somehow managed both softness and sharpness together with just enough texture to make the image sing. Comp and POV are excellent as is toning. Well done and congrats!

So close to a ribbon, but a very good photo nonetheless. Congrats on the top ten finish. I especially love the sharpness and details captured in this otherwise "soft" photo.

the processing, especially the color treatment, is clearly sophisticated, and the skill of the artist shines through. still I find this image bottom-heavy - I don't think the hair clip is enough to balance out the field of red folds at the bottom.

I like the contrast in the B&W portion of the image, but the selective desaturation seems to have been done because it was possible rather than because it improved the image.

I like this alot, the clarity, the light, the use of selective desatuaration...I can't imagine this not getting a ribbon...just beautiful.

I was prepared to not be fond of the "desat" responses to this challenge, but this is such a beautiful picture.

I miss the warmth of her skin in color. Otherwise I really like the use of selective color. I don't think it would take away from the red to have her face in color too. Very sweet expression on her face and excelent composition, focus and lighting. I gave this a seven because I really like it and feel it meets the challenge.

this is a beautiful image - if I had to change anything it would be same image on a plain background - the couch is a little distracting, takes the magic and mystique away

Desaturating her doesn't work for me, for some reason. Nice elegance, though. 6

She's so lovely but I'm not a fan of the desat. It makes her almost appear ashenly dead. I'd rather her have a slight tinge of pigment. The red would still stand out on her kimono. I love her pose and natural expression.
