I collect Victorian photography...there is something really cool about being able to hold and examine an image made atleast 100 years ago, and some more than 150 years ago.

There is nothing quite like the light captured in a Daguerreotype...or the silky smooth tonal transitions...and about a million other things really...to hold one in your hand is to hold a piece of history.

A note about the still life stuff...many of the items are atleast 140 years old...one of the books is even over 200 years old...old stuff rules...

I wonder what's in your collection of Victorian photography. Do you have an on-line galery of your collection?

I don't have an online gallery, but that's a really interesting idea...and a good way for me to catalog the images. A handful of images can be seen in this photograph:

I'd say most in my collection are portraits. I also have examples of architecture, animal, candid, and post-mortem images.

I wonder what he would have made of today's digital SLR's and Photoshop. Nicely handled light and exposure, I think he would have approved.

Creative interpretation of the challenge! Some may say it's far too sharp, but were Daguerre to make this "print" with today's capabilities, it would indeed be sharp. Lighting is excellent.

Great composition and use of tonal qualities throughout. The flower on the right is a bit bright compared to the rest but it's ok. It's not ditracting from the whole photo. Great textures as well. Good job!

Great still life. I like the overall dark feeling, yet there is a lot of detail to look at.

A very nice capture with convincing tonal magic of the olden days and a very good tribute to Daguerre. Outside of the slight tilt, this image is certainly a gem with subjects to complement the era. Bumping up.
