This shot is outstanding in every way...color, clarity, composition....Perfect! Had I voted (I was not a member at the time), I would have given it a '10' PLUS! Bravo!

Thanks, I didn't even know this was a starling when I took this photo in Washington DC while traveling for work. I haven't seen starlings like this in California. Out here, sea gulls, pidgeons, and crows are the major pests. :-)

I am SO happy to see this picture here in the top ten. Starlings are absolutely amazing birds. Gorgeous AND intelligent. I own two as pets and they just are wonderful animals. They talk and everything!!

Here in upstateNY (aka farm country) people view them in much the same way that people view pigeons in other parts of the country- ugly pests. So glad to see this beautiful picture get so well recieved :)

Great image.
Starlings are deceivingly colourful birds, when the light catches their plumage, they really sparkle.
I see from most commenters that they appear unfamiliar with the bird,I assume that they are not as common in your part of the world.

Common to the point of being considered pests in UK.
Nicely captured.

Amazing color in this little one, it's like he should be perched on a golden rod rather than an ordinary stick, bumping up 9.

6 - Nice vibrant colors. Good capture. Criticism; apologies in advance if wrong, but looks like either neat-imaged or other pp, causing a plastic type appearance and resulting in loss of detail, especially in the feathers etc. Difficult to discern if it is focal issues or not.

Wonderful bird photography! The crisp razor-sharp bird literally jumps out at you against that beautiful blurred background. Great job.
