A lime dropped into a wineglass, lit by flash. A sigma ef-500 dg super on the right and just behind the glass, pointed at the background. Head zoomed all the way in to 105mm so the light looks very directional to bring out the texture of the background. Various experiments in height of lime-dropping and amount of water in glass - best results were with about half an inch of air at the top of the glass, and lime dropped from about 3 feet up. I chose a lime because it was just slightly smaller than the mouth of the glass, by the way.

Flash was triggered as an optical slave (had to use flash exposure lock so the ettl preflash wouldn't set it off just before the actual exposure), hand in front of the on-camera flash so there's no direct light on the subject (but enough bounces round the room for the slave to pick it up).

Shot with remote release, and a lot of trial and error (and wiping of wet flash)

Editing:
Crop to the most dramatic part of the splash (original had entire glass in it)
Increase contrast and brightness
Shift hue towards purple (the background was a minging cream colour)
Resize
Sharpen

Very neat job (I've yet to try this and this has whet my appetite!). Flawless lighting and clarity. The only flaw is your composition which is just too wide on the right and slightly skewed down to the left. This is picking nits of course.
