went for a walk, and noticed the reflection of my shadow by the creek and thought it was kinda cool! thanks everyone for the ribbon!

The original has the shadow in it, I thought it was weird too. The SC wouldn't have validate it otherwise because it would be adding a major element.

IMHO,

If you notice, the water is very still where the shadow of the person is and there is a nice shadow reflection in the water. Where the tree is the water is stirred up. There is a shadow there but it is not clearly reflected because of the movement of water. Or the grey patch for some reason doesn't show a shadow for either and the tree's shadow falls only on the grey patch.

This is a great shot, Justin.

I agree with beetle. No rule says that answers are required either.

I don't see how this photo could be real. I have looked at it so many times, but I still can't make sense of it.

There are two fundamental problems I have with it:

The person's shadow on the right has a reflection in the water, yet the tree's shadow on the left does NOT.

Even more impossible is this: 100% of the shadow is firmly visible against reddish embankment, yet the shadow's reflection shows head and shoulders against blue sky!!!

I tried once before to get an explanation for this, but never got an answer :-( Guess I'll have to keep wondering about it.

Wow, I really loved your photo. I do have a question - I am new to DP and I see many photographers using Photoshop. Did you use PS for your Afternoon Reflections photo?

It reminds me of a cave painting somehow, maybe it's the colors. Congrats on the well-deserved ribbon!

I came to look because of the colors- such bountiful oranges and greens. I stayed, because the photograph itself is full of magical appearances, things that seem to be one thing, but are another. The dark person casting a reflection in the water, who is his- or herself only a shadow. The dark tree with its beige leaves- actually a tree's shadow surrounded by a chalkier soil. A very beautiful, rich photograph. Thank you!

And congratulations on the justly deserved blue ribbon.

is that a reflection of a shadow or did you burn that? I don't care, because the colors and abstract quality make this one rise....

At first I thought this looked like it could it be the cover of an album, but it should be somewhere much more prevalent, since it takes forever to figure out. I think I'm starting to get the gist of it, but it's a fantastically complex shot.
