Copenhagen metro is brand new and has carriages without driver, so with fully accessible front and back window. I think this is the only photo that shows us the INSIDE of a circle to imply roundness. Super work and congratulations!

Congratulations! This was one of the first pics I saw during voting, and I knew that it was going to do very well (and that mine wasn't... haha!) Very nice!

I think therein lies a problem! ;) It's a cracker - I'll go for a 10.

This is beautiful! I have tried long exposures from the roof of my car, through a road tunnel, and from a tram, but these are all so bumpy, and the view is dirty. It looks so clean! Its fantastic! I can't believe how well the shades of yellow/brown go together. I'll mark this as only my second favourite on here.

Excellent! Congratulations. It was so hard to find anything wrong with a photograph of this quality. Well thought out and very well edited. I only hope someday I can produce a photo of the same quality.

Congrats for good job. It´s just brilliant and the best one of this week, no doubt.
One of my favourite. I want to see more picture of this level, it´s great, I only have good words for your work.

I figured it was a subway and I knew it wasn't in the US, it was way too smooth. Congratulations!

Congratuations! I am glad that an abstract gets a blue ribbon. I didn't vote on this challenge. But this photo jumped at me in the thumbnails and was the only one I clicked to view it. To be hoenst, I don't think this would win because the audience here is not into abstract. But it proves me wrong, quite a breakthrough for me to judge the voters. Thank you for sharing the detailed description of your photo too. keep on good work.

Wow, thanks all for voting my picture to first place. Really feel great about it. Thanks. When I entered I was wondering whether it would fit the theme, but with some open interpretation I thought it did. (Are the lower scores received an indication of some different opinions about this ? I would love to know the reasons.)

A lot of you wondered what it is or how I did it, well here it is :

It is the view through the front window of the new Copenhagen metro/subway/underground. The metro has been opened only October last year and is very modern and smooth and also unmanned, no driver, so has large accessible windows in the front and back.

I put my camera on a tripod, but used it as monopod, so the legs not folded out. Then I held the camera against the glass, supported by the monopod at an angle, and used the rubber lenshood folded against the glass to shield out any reflections from the interior.

I tried different apertures and exposure times at different speeds of the train and this one turned out the best. It is a 1 second exposure at F2.1 which gives this nice yellow color. Most of the other pictures turned out much more brown because of less exposure, and also less abstract, with the individual lights still visible.

Because of the high speed of the train in the bend and the smoothness of the ride, the picture turned out smooth as well, there was hardly any side movement at this part of the track.

The picture was slightly cropped, to make the round tunnel a bit better visible, small S curve applied, slightly sharpened and then saved for web. No other manipulation.

Thanks again,

Willem Dijkstra
