Post Challenge
thanks for the Blue everyone :)
I was late for work getting this one as this was the last of about 10 shots I took for the challenge and I had to wait till the light levels balanced
here is the color original showing off the beauty of Sydney at first light

looks like I got bumped back to 2nd after some votes were removed due to others cheating.... Oh well will have to try harder to get the blue in another challenge

Great shot! I would love to shoot the Opera House someday. With that kind of Architecture you can set up so many different shots.

how someone could give this below a 7 (which is still a stretch) is unbeknownst to me, let alone a 1 or 2 (what were they thinking)...this was such a great capture. i love this duo-conversion, as well as the original color. only thing i would change is the fact that in the grading they don't allow an 11 to be given for instances such as this. very nice job. bravo!

Well I don't think you'll get a good reason. The worst I can see is someone giving this is a 5 and that's assuming the person has gotten completely bored with photos of this famous opera house.

It looks really cool... my only object would be as to the choice of color for the duotone. What would be better? I dunno... but this color just isn't working for me. The duotone application (in spite of the color) was done really well. Kudos.

02/25/2006 06:18:45 AM
The colour doesn't suit the image, sepia would have been better and even better again, I'm sure, would be full colour. Good composition, 8

Wonderful shot. Love the sloping gradient to the sky, the Opera House is nicely lit, and there is that neat little shark in the harbor. Well done!

I think this would have worked better with the sky cropped just above the clouds, and with the right side of the building included.

Beautiful choice of colour for the duotone, really nice and sharp and I like the thin clouds hanging over the opera house.

02/24/2006 02:38:17 AM
This is extremely well done. The luminosity of it is remarkable. My first reaction to the greenish tone was pretty negative, but it has since grown on me. I might have cropped just a smidgeon off the left to lose that single, on-the-edge bright spot... bumping way up, and good luck.

Great shot! Boy does this bring back memories! I was fortunate enough to visit here back in 1969 while on R&R while serving in the Marines. The people were fantastic and made me feel like I was home, something that I will never ever forget. I like the tones that you choose to use as they suit this photo well. Good composition and sharpness. (10)

Very nice picture. Very clear and precise. Nice choice for tones. Only grip I could come up with would be the wispy clouds. I would have just liked to seen a blank sky and maybe stars. But one can not always get what we want so I gave it a 9.

An interesting color choice that somehow works perfectly. I like the contrast of the subtle sky/clouds and water/reflection versus the hard, dramatic lines of the Opera House.
