Was going to be called "Study of Spunky"

I setup a make-shift studio in my living room by taping a bed sheet to the wall. Then I took a bunch of pictures of my son's dog, my son, and my niece. Although the kid shots where nice, most folks liked this dog shot.

She was sitting on a piano bench for my test shots and I guess got tired so layed down on the bench and staired out the back window to the back yard. Patient dog ;-). This particular shot was done with only the natural light coming in the window.

You've captured a fantastic expression but it looks like a lucky capture for an amateur rather than a professional shot, here's why:
You've not made the most of the composition... this would have real impact if the dog was on the right hand of the frame with loads of negative space in the rest of the frame.
Highlights are burnt out on the dog's fur.
The background is way too similar in texture and colour to the dog which makes this photo lose a lot of it's potential power.
But your timing really is superb here.

Excellent tones and shallow DOF. If that was my dog, this picture would be proudly displayed on the wall.

The title could use some work, but the picture is awesome. It is not easy to take pictures of dog's with their eyes wide open like that, so kudos to you for an amazing picture of a dog!

Oh!!!!! I love this. Look at the devotion in those eyes. I love the way you have composed this too. Good luck.

This is a great portrait, although it makes me wonder what's in the background - seems to follow a regular pattern.

beautiful pup, i just wish the background wasnt so patterned, if there was a solid backdrop this would have been so much stronger
