I didnt intend on posting this-- so I apologize to those that I have shown, (or may have seen) the photo to earlier this week-- It wasnt self-promotion, I Swear!
But when it came to the end it was the best I had-
Shot indoors with a branch I took of a bush-- White posterboard as backing--
And thanks to everyone who gave me input on how to improve the shot-- (you know who you are) :)

Wow - you took this guy inside and he stayed right where he was supposed to? Had I done that, he'd have leapt off and the cats would have had a field day trying to catch him!

Thank you everone who voted and gave me all the nice comments.
The grasshopper was alive and well during the shoot, I used Shiz's techinique of capturing him and put him in a jar for awhile to calm him down..

That was the first time I had a pic flirting between high 6 and low 7's and it is STRESSFULL-- I don't know how all of you regular ribbon getters handle it--

Thanks again everyone, and congrats to all the other ribbon getters and to all the top 10-- great pics..

Dude, way to go!!! I'm sad to say I didn't finish voting, so I wasn't able to contribute to your win, but it's an awesome shot. All your hard work has paid off - you've finally broken into the big time. Congratulations.

Oh, and was this with or without the macro lens??? ;-)

This is the best bug shot in this challenge (IMHO). Watch out for blooming around edges (maybe too much of a saturation?). Well done. 10

Good focus & exposure. The flat grey background, while it does not detract, doesn't do much to enhance either.

very nice macro. great detail on the grasshopper. the bright background creates some blue halo things around the plant tho, which looks strange. 9

What a stunning image. The solid white background is perfect. The red twigs, green leaves are a wonderful photographic setting for the grasshopper. Cropping and composition is just right.

Textbook perfect.

My rating: WOW

Very clear and crisp - shame about the lower body distortion.

The best insect macro this challenge. I really wish I hadn't entered one now! What sets this one above the rest is the composition and background. No distracting elements, the simplicity works very well. The dof is spot-on, very nice clarity in your subject. You bring out the character of your grasshopper well. Nice colours. Effective lighting and exposure. 10

The colours are a touch bland for my taste. The backing colour could have been more lively. And I find the leaves a bit distracting. Other than that, I love the shot. 7

great pose - did you use a rear white card or reflector?

Although I'm not very partial to macros, I cannot deny beauty.

A tad more light on the (foreground) branch/stem and lower legs, perhaps? But even the frame is well chosen, the title brief and apt... > 7 (second place, IMO)

So far, this is my favorite. I love the metalic look of the grasshopper and the complimentary color of the leaves behind him. The white backdrop really makes it all stand out. Good luck.

Great focus, Just lost it right on his/her rear end (not being picky, just noticing how much WAS in focus).

Somehow I knew this challenge would bring out a lot of macro bug shots :)

Nice clarity without seeming oversharpened -- exept the end of his (her?) butt is out of focus.
