Well to tell the truth I didn't shoot this for the footwear challenge. We had a shooting on Saturday with some models and when I was looking through what we had shot I saw the shoes and just decided to enter it into the footwear challenge. I knew it wouldn't be a top contender because as you say and as many have written here, the shoes are not the main subject in the image.

Thanks for the comments everyone.

She's a wondeful model. Her face has a lot of character, and yet it is "model beautiful".

I like this image very much. I like the repeating lines: her silhouette repeated in the line of the hair over the eye; the back of the head repeated in the shoulders and hinted at with the top of her hips. I also very much like the brown/black colour combination, the colours suit this girl beautifully. I like the centred subject placement in this case - it works. I like it that the model is not neatimaged to death, if there's any noise reduction, it's very subtle; I find the slight mottling in the skin of the arm very "human", goes well with the "without" title.

One thing I wonder about is the silver insteps of the shoes - they don't quite go along with the image, then again, if the insteps were black or white or gold maybe it would be too homogeneous.

As far as DPC and scores goes, I imagine the reason it didn't score higher is that the connection to footware is not "in your face".

Cheers!

Well, I've seen worse.. :)
This photo is a classic, I've seen similar photos in some magazines a while ago and I always loved them - yours is no exception.

I think going with a pair of shoes in a different color might've created a more dramatic effect though.

Keep up the good work and it's good to have you back in here.

this shot is unbelievably good ... true, it doesn't have much to do with footwear ... but still unbelievably good.

i do a lot of portrait studying (my fav type of photography), and your stuff is just as good as the very best i've ever seen.

you deserve your status here on dpc ... freakin awesome job!

Sexy model. I like how she looks away from teh camera. My only comment would be her pose. I think it would have been better had she struck a 3/4 pose so that her shoulder is flung forward where her back is visible and the shoes - which are important. 8

Pretty girl! Wish the shoes were a little more visible. I'm almost distracted by the pretty girl....takes my attention away from the subject of the photo.

IMOP: I think the focus is too much on the model- not enough on the footwear...

I like the fact that you have included footwear, but have not made this a product shot. Nice comp, good lighting, and a really cute model.

Teh footwear does not appear to be the focus of the shot, your beautiful model does.

Kapluggin quality. :)
Good photo, great lighting. I like the calming balance of skin tones, the black and the background.
You wonder why she has her shoes slung over her back. Tired feet of wearing high heels probably. That would be a little bit more clear when I can see one of the stilletto heels a bit more clear.
Very much looking forward to the workshop.

Nicely taken, although to me this is more about the model than the shoes. Perhaps if the shoes were more the main focus it'd have been better for this challenge.

Nice composition, black strappy heels, black dress, lovely model and expression. My favorite for this competition - beautiful.

would have left more space on left and less on right to emphasize the feeling of her going away, besides that a nice portrait

Really like the color composition. The complement of the model's hair and the background contrasting with the dress and shoes is pleasing.

Great expression, love the color.
The only thing that's bothering me is the bright line around her body.
Still very nice.

Excellent model and shot and color - I'd like to see her a little less centered.

Great image, almost a 10 but I can't help feeling that there is a slight imbalance caused by the dominance of her arm in the image
