I really struggled for a suitable image on this challenge.

I have been away from home so in my hotel room I experimented with a number of different themes including bottles, wine glasses, and mirrors. I played with numerous shaped abjects but for me none of them had the simplicity of this tear drop.

I know that this style has been used a number of times before, and even by me last week in the déjà vu challenge. I tried to develop a different approach using colour.

The plan was to have the tear drop in a different predominant colour to that of the background. I think the concept works!

The problem for me was trying to get all the glass in focus. I tried over 200 shots to get this.

The target at the top of the tear drop is also the same as the one at the bottom, refracted from both the background and the top bulb at the same time. This means that there is no actual true point for focus, so no amount of depth of field can solve the problem, as the image is not actually there.

This was shot at f22 to try and get DOF, however rather stupidly I had the camera set at 20 secs. I remembered this after I had pressed the shutter, so I counted 4 elephants and then covered the lens.

I liked the result so kept it….
