She nursed them, She protects them, She teaches them, She leads them. She is their Mother. I am proud to use this challenge to tribute my beautiful wife and the wonderful mother of my favourite models.

I shot this in my studio the setup was 2 umbrella strobes at either side at opposite sides are white board reflectors. Low center was soft box strobe. I pushed the kids back to allow the softness and depth of field.

I like the way the three faces interact... Kinda forms a heart.

Win or lose I count my blessings everyday and I am thankful for what life has offered me. This shot sums it all up

Hope this does well

Coley

..just stumbled on this, while looking at your profile, after you winning a red, for 'the meeting'.
The photo, and especially your comments, give me a lump in my throat and a tear in my eye. Emotive, evocative, brilliant.

Love this, and I definitely "get" the heart shape. All you have to do is squint the teeniest bit and the heart just jumps out at you. A wonderful tribute to your lovely women. Bet this is hanging in your home somewhere!

Hola! From the Critique Club!

I love, and I mean LOVE this picture, Cole. The composition is so well thought out. It really makes a connection with the view, and it tells something about the subject, even without the title. I love pictures with a point and a story lately, so this is right up my alley. If I had come across this in the voting, I would have given it at the very least an 8.

The only thing that may be hurting you here is the lighting/color may be a little bit cool (just a teeny bit), and the expressions of your daughters and somewhat your wife, are not quite inviting. I think maybe just getting a small smile out of them (not a beaming grin or anything) could have helped the viewers connect with them a bit more.

The subtle heart shape that you mentioned was a bit too subtle for me. Maybe I need a bit more hand holding for that to come across to this view. All in all, a great shot, and should have been rated higher IMO.

An absolutely perfect shot in my books. I love the skin textures in the high tones. I also like the perfect balance of your daughters' poses behind your wife, having exactly the right parts of their face/eye covered.

Fantastic.

Unusual lighting (probably the only shot here with catchlights below the pupils) and unusal background, but I like it. Did you try with the two girls more out of focus? I'd prefer if your main model stood out just a little more. 8

I think this is a great shot. Great concept. I like how the moms shirt blends into the back images and just the overall composition. Nice and clean. This is in my top 5. Edit - bumping up to top 2.

This is one of my favorates. I like the composition here alot. Not real sure about the color of the skin here, has a slight reddish cast. The skin tone seems just alittle off. This is one of the better shots that I have seen. The out of focus of the daughters is real nice, however they are not even. Looks to me that one on the right appears alittle more blurry. It is the first thing I saw. Still worth a 7.

Works very well to have people as backround, something I learned from the Triptych challenge. This shot works, not terribly fond of the strong lighting from below but it´s not bad either, just think I would have preferred it if the topside lightsource and the bottom lightsource had their power reversed to give off a stronger shadow from her chin. Anyway, like it, gave it a 7.

personally I would have liked it more if all 3 girls are in good focus, meaning a greater DOF is used. But I dont mean that I dislike this, because this is a a creative idea and a good shot. Nice work

I really like this image, very powerful - their expressions are perfect! Post processing is superb. Only nit I have is the skin tones seem to have a little too much magenta. Bumping up to <8>.

shouldn't that be "Mother, Mentor... Our Heart" since it's the 2 daughters...

Just being picky here, excellent capture.

Intresting take on the challenge. I like the DOF with the other women (daughters?) in the background. Nice focus and lighting. As a nitpick, I might have her remove the necklace as the lines of it are a tad distracting. The skin tones are just a touch pink, but maybe all three of them are fair.

I like the idea presented here. I think I'd prefer to see both eyes of each of the girls, so maybe have them positioned just slightly more to the outside. (I'm just not a big fan of the one-eyed shots). Also, for me, skin tones and brightness could also be improved.
