I spent a lot of time trying to shoot something for this challenge but couldn't get anything I liked. This was just a snapshot I took of Nasti when we were out getting a shot for "something old". It wasn't even planned for this challenge :)

++++

Thank yooooooooou! I'm am so happy this one got a ribbon. And it does go to show that sometimes the unplanned shots can also do well.

The windmill in the top left hand pane is the windmill Nasti used in her blue ribbon photo for "Something old II"

I gave this a 7 during the challenge. I underrated it. This has a painterliness about it... truly lovely.

I wonder if she has already taken her photo and is thinking if it turned out well, or if she is planning out, scouting out where to shoot and preparing in her mind, I prefer the latter as she appears lost in some thought.

ya know...there is a song titled "Windmills of Your Mind". that's the first thing i thought of when i saw this! Partial lyrics are:

Round, like a circle in a spiral
Like a wheel within a wheel.
Never ending or beginning,
On an ever spinning wheel
Like a snowball down a mountain
Or a carnival balloon
Like a carousell that's turning
Running rings around the moon

Like a clock whose hands are sweeping
Past the minutes on its face
And the world is like an apple
Whirling silently in space
Like the circles that you find
In the windmills of your mind

congrats on an excellent photo, Gary (and Nasti!). *hugs to you both*

I really like this. The colors, the shadows, the isolation of the person through one pane and the reflection of the mill in another. Very well done.

One of my fav's so far. The age of the window, the expression, the reflections, and the hint of darkness really pull together as a nice photo to look at. 10

Strange to have the windmill on her head. Should have placed her on the right side of the window to awoid that. But great photo with very nice color settings. Top 5?

This shot is really nice. Love the difusse ligh on the face, the different framed topics, the blur mill and the candid girl expression. It is great!!
Looking for something to be improved I just can say that maybe the hands are in some way distracting.

After writting my last comment I tried to hide her hand on the picture checking that it loses some strength, Finally I think you did it well. :) R9

Lovely shot - it works that she's looking out of the image. I like the way she's clearly detailed but that we also have detail on the scene outside in the other three panes. And it's an interesting scene too and the composition of what we see in each pane adds up well. I think this is just great.

This one is very interesting , I like the way you "split" in 2 the window with the reflect of the landscape on the upper top and the melancholy face.
Really nice composition !

One of very few literally framed images to have any real point to it. The window serves a worthy purpose here, by creating a natural polyptych ... it could be the woman; her memories; her fears; her alter ego. Other interesting quadratic interpretations are possible. Either way, the window framing seems natural and an important part of the meaning of the photograph. 8.

I really like the different elements in this shot as they seem to tell a story and elude to more that whats in the photo. The contrast, and grainy quality really add to the emotive feel of this shot... my vote is a 7

What a beautifull windmill, why is the model looking so sad? Doesnt she like windmills? Doesnt she know windmill equals blue ribbon?
  Photographer found comment helpful.
04/24/2006 01:49:08 PM
This looks like Nasti! I love this shot! The windmill in the reflection on top, the look on the person's face, can't quite explain it, it's a quiet, reflective, thoughtful look. Like she's zoning out and just being, very well done. The only thing that bothers me and it's nit picky is the hands, for some reason they don't look quite natural, the front one is okay but the other one just seems off for some reason. A 9
