this will be really interesting to see how this does in the eyes of dpc...

i had a lot of assignments this week, all of which resulted in published images--including a ceremony where the Governor of Va was the keynote speaker! however, to me, this one had the most interesting dynamics.

it was taken after the Hanover HS Hawks had defeated the Lee-Davis HS Confederates. the team had just finished clearing the field, and was ready to go home. the captains called for one last cheer. i had been shooting headshots with my 70-200, but when i saw the team starting to come together, i quickly switched to my 10-22, and switched to AV mode. when they had grouped, i knelt down and stuck the camera between two players and pointed up. in burst mode (heyah, ed!), i fired off about 6 shots, hoping to catch something in focus and exposed decently. this was the cleanest of the bunch, and will run in the paper next week.

i like it, because it does capture the essence of team commitment, as well as showing faces--which is primo in photojournalism. all that remains to be seen is how dpc responds to it ;-)

why won't it do well? it's probably too subtle for the challenge. it's not as dramatic as a crime scene, a fire, a riot, a demonstration, an action shot, or something else more 'newsworthy'...

post: rotated, cropped, adjusted curves/levels, reduced noise, sized for web.

Very nice photo. I'm wondering if this was hurt because it looked like a setup shot vs capturing something real. The lack of logos/decals on their shirts adds to that perception. The guy at the top in the white clearly has it but he isn't as noticeble.

Very nice! The perspective is perfect for this shot, lighting right on to show the "stadium" aspect. Definitely worthy of print!

The perspective gets a high mark from me. Hightlights seem a bit over exposed. This is tough to control as there's a lot of contrast(and that's what makes the photo interesting)

Interesting camera placement. It works well with this photo. And the lighting really invites me in to the photo. Anyone who has been there can relate to this photo.
