A sad condition but one rooted deep in reality of suffering humanity.
Congratulations on your top 5 finish.

Critique Club:

If I had the power this one would have ended in first place by far. The contrast is just excellent and the crop is also good. The little girl looking at the man is a wonderful moment and makes this picture amazing. One of the far best picture you have taken in my opinion. Much better than the ones with a beautiful face and some scarf/clothing covering the face half way :) I would like to see more pictures like this from you. This is a real photograph! Great job. Just amazing!

I´ve seen this kind of thing in Ban Pong, where I spend my holiday´s.
A man that lost both his legs crawled true the crowd over mud and stones.
People didnt seem to notice him. Yes they stepped aside, but that was about the only reaction. That is an image that stays with me, and your photo is a strong reminder of it.

As another asian resident, I also see this all the time and it bothers me a lot at how callous people are towards these individuals. They get jaded because of so many people who try to make an extra scene of themselves... I've seen people using magic markers, lipstick and nail polish to try to accentuate minor and sometimes non-existant wounds.

So it is not surprising that people are cold to this type of person.

But when you see the ones that are genuinely damaged goods, it is heartbreaking to see the apathy around them.

Your picture has captured a beautiful moment where the innocence of youth shows through as unmarred by the distant uncaring stance of the adults around. Great stuff!

It is interesting to see the difference in individuals in these situations. The ones that are in real dire straits often appreciate a few kind words as much as a small donation.

this has a lot of potential. too bad you didn't catch any interaction between him and the child, or that you didn't catch his face. i could be wrong, but this does seem to be a bit more processed (NI?) than most PJ images

This sure tells a story. Especially with the small child staring at him. So sad.

Great shot that tells just a portion of a story. Your eye goes between the man sitting and the child who is turned around, but I think the child's clothing and shoes are just a bit too bright. Well captured!

Yes, good title to go with a great moment. Too bad you couldn't be a tad lower angle. Still you did great with this.

So glad you captured the child looking back. Strong message there. Almost looks like he's reaching his hand out to help... Or point. Either way, great capture of a sad state of life.

Wow! Amazing shot. I love how the girl is looking at the man, and everyone else's head is missing. Very dramatic! I am sure you will do quite well with this shot!

This is a great b&w.The highlights are just a bit blown, and the blacks could use a tweeking, but overall nice levels.

The thing is, it has no emotional value. The face of the begger would of done this, however, he is turned away from the camera. If I had seen his face, than the story would of been complete, as it is, I don't feel anything.

photojournalism photo for what kinda of newspaper or magazine front page ? difficult task, right ? but the photo is strong ... and B&W is excellent approach

Great capture that I think really works for the challenge. I like the crop that ensures that none of the adult's faces can be seen, but on this low down level, the girl looks back at the man - and that's what really sets it off.

This is a really nice B&W. Lovely deep blacks and contrast.
I love the way you can only see the legs of the adults as they pass by, which totally contrasts with his deformity, but you can see the whole of the little girl, who seems to be the only one to notice.
There is a lovely diagonal going on, from bottom right to upper left.

Wonderful!!!10

the child being lead by her mother in an almost "come on. dont look" type of way gives this photo its life. great image!
