Challenge: Lenscap (Basic Editing III)
Camera: Canon PowerShot S2 IS
Location: San Pedro, CA
Date: May 12, 2006
Aperture: 3.5
ISO: 50
Shutter: 1/60
Galleries: Abstract, Floral
Date Uploaded: May 13, 2006

This one was me learning how to work with studio lighting... my set-up was a little ghetto and I may have almost burned down my apartment, but it worked. After cutting petals off a sunflower and taping them onto my lens cap, I rested the flower / lens cap directly onto a lightbulb, so it was backlit, and had another light shining directly on top of it so you could read the Canon logo. I'm pretty happy with the results; I just wish I could've figured out a better way to backlight it so I didn't have to crop it so close.

Post editing was cropping and adjustment of the levels, contrast, color balance and saturation.

I don't think the close crop hurt thsi shot at all. :) Excellent, creative use of your available lighting!

In regards to you being a bit disappointed you had to crop this so close - don't be! I think this looks great the way it fills up the frame. Keeps that very intense yellow going all the way flush with the (appropriate) border.

Wow, cool. Thanks for the votes & comments - very exciting to end up in the top 10! To answer the questions about the color of my lens cap, I didn't use paint - I just saturated the pic in Photoshop. There were yellow reflections on the cap from the petals, which turned a bright & solid yellow once saturated.

Very, very clever, and one of my favorites in this challenge.....
Not to comfortable with the border, as I think a simple black one would have made the image "POP".....
