I have had this shot in my mind for months... tonight the elements all came together. He works in mysterious ways.

I did a auto-color, auto-level, and slight hue adjustment for the colors. I then did a denoise and resize/sharpen.

I am glad to see this shot take a ribbon. This is one of those right place at the right time shots. Skies like this just don't drop in when you want them to. Maybe a little divine intervention? (Is that legal in the challenge?). ;)

Congrats on the ribbon. Love the contrast here. Good, sharp focus at the bottom of the image trailing into the negative space above.

Nice cloud/sun shot, but is it really negative space? It is very much the entire shot. Title does nothing for it that I see.
08/22/2003 02:38:08 PM
Excellent image. 2 very minor things I would change, none of which really detract from the photo. The cross seems to be slightly tilted to the right, and also there is a very tiny bit of tree or bush creeping into the left part of the shot. Again none of these really detract from the image 10

You've captured the mood and "feeling" of religion very well with this. Nice interpretation for the challenge. The colors and exposure in the clouds is well done and the light streaks really add a "zing" to this.

Awesome...very lucky with the light here, excellent eye! A minor nitpick...the branch at left really leads my eye away. I'd personally have cropped it. Still, just excellent.

Interesting shot. The sky is beautiful, and the small silhouette very good. The negative space does make the picture here, even though I think you could have cropped a bit off the top (to right below the small cloud in the centre) without loosing impact. The sepia tones are well done.

Two nitpicks and a question:
(1) there's a little branch peeking in at the bottom left corner;
(2) the cross looks slightly turned, like you weren't perfectly in back of it when taking the shot;
(3) I thought "trinity" meant three, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. I see Christ's cross, possibly the Holy Spirit in the light of the sky, but where's the Father?

~8 from me

This is very much positive space to me - the Image relies heavily on the sky for its power and it is both detailed and interestingly textured. I would have cropped out the foliage on the left.
08/18/2003 01:05:02 PM
Enlightening! Shame it's a little grainy.

I wish you the best this week with this photo. It has everything it takes to be a great piece of art. It tells a story with the light rays and clouds. It just speaks to me. I needed this right now so thank you :)

You must've really had to time this one right, I really like how the cross seems to grow out of the border.

Excellent work :) I love the emotive value of this photograph. This is one of the strongest images in this challenge. The sun beams punching through the clouds behind the cross makes this photograph 'speak' in a very strong tone. What this photo is 'saying' could be interpreted several different ways as well :) Kudos on a beautiful photo... (comment #6000 for setzler) :D = 10

Every once in awhile, the camera manages to capture something truly wonderous and this is definitely one of those shots. Not only have you taken my breath away with the beauty of your obvious center of focus, but you have captivated my imagination as I study the clouds at the top of the frame and see the "angel" watching over this lonely little grave. I think the sepia works wonderfully here, disallowing color to detract from these amazing images. The ONLY distraction I see is the very small silhouette in the bottom left corner of the frame which can be easily tweaked out with post-processing techniques. All in all, a terrific use of negative space. A 10 from me (if only I could vote).

Overexposure is evident on the cross. I know that to avoid that the clouds would be darker, but you could use tone curves to overcome that problem. I think that the cross should be completely solid for this to work really well. 6
