good capture. subject itself posses an appearance that tells a story. Your description proved that. It's not often that we can capture a photo that tells you in visual the story about itself. Great work, man.

Hey, cool creepy goat shot Richard.
Yeah, contrived. Heavy word.
Anyways, great work with the pp, as always.
I'm a bit bothered about the cropped ear but compositionally, I'd've probably done the same.
The purply whatever under the goat's ears makes me snigger, for some strange reason.

this is so sad and creppy
because it doesent look like it should be real but it is and it looks like somthing you find under the bed in a horror movie=creppy
it kind of looks like one of my goats if i dident feed her for a few months and she got fleas or her hair started falling out=sad
good job!

I thought about removing the selective desat but I wanted to include something positive in the image because this goat was rescued and the only way I thought I could convey that was with some color. The horns just seem like a good place to me but I get what you're saying.

Hi Richard-

This is a scary looking photo, and to be honest I didn't score it very high since it seemed to me more disturbing and frightening than desolate. Not that it didn't also meet that definition, but it wasn't the first thing that came to mind for me. Also, I don't think that photos that are difficult to look at as this one is tend to do well here. It seemed like a lot of the photos for Desolation suffered from meeting the challenge a little too well. The selective desat on this draws the eyes to the horns rather than to the face, so it's difficult to find a place to rest my eyes in this difficult to look at photo.

Hi from CP2!

What a haunting picture! The colours work well and the lighting is very good! This is a good one!

Man - people do not get it do they. This is a splendid image and I gave it one of the few 10's in the challenge. The symbolism - wow. Great one, Richard. Sorry people didn't see it the way we did.

I am astonished that anyone could fail to see desolation in this photo. I had this picked for a top 10 at least. It is the most desolate looking goat I have ever seen, and on the whole goats are pretty desolate looking to start with.

I thought this looked like your handiwork!!! Absolutely friggin' fantastic image. Sorry more people didn't see the desolation in it. Definitely expected to see this in the top 10. LOVE it anyway - instant favorite.

This reminds me of the scary bunny in Donnie Darko. Very creepy. And I thought goats were cute... I like the contrast in the tones. Good job.

Great picture of a goat! Not sure I see the correlation to desolation, other than they'll eat everything in sight, but great picture of a goat!

Great DOF and face. Without the cropped ear I'd give this a 10. Tones and clarity are incredible still. 9

Sorry, but I am not convinced of Desolation.

A scary goat I am convinced of. comp ok, blacks too deep, whites barely in, nice texture, nice light, dof ok,

Watership Down a la Goat? For the subject I think it does not quite make it. If in an environment of slaughter, perhaps.

Holy smoke. I'm skeeeered!! Either that's a rabid goat or he needs orthodontia. That is REALLLLY good. The title just sends shivers down my spine. Fantastic editing. I can't stop looking at it. The more I do, the more I have empathy for the guy. Probably a sweetheart with an underbite. BRAVO 10
