This is one of my favorite things to take pictures of; I guess now that I've put it in a challenge I need to stop going there. This is a sculpture called "Needle Tower," made from aluminum tubes and one long steel cable. It's beautiful; it looks weightless, and it sways just slightly, reminding you it's not welded together. It's in the sculpture garden on the grounds of the Hirshhorn Museum at the Smithsonian.

This is the intended view of the sculpture, but you can read about it and see a picture of the whole thing from the side at //hirshhorn.si.edu/collection/gardens/snelson.html

i really like your framing on this... I wonder if a polarizer could have deepened the blue in the sky al little?
I'm still trying to figure out how this thing stands up... looks like the tension on the wires is all that gives it rigidity... think I've read about such structures, but not seen one. Would like to know where this is, and what's the function.

Wow. Very cool looking. I'd like to see what it looks like from the side. I think it would've been strong if it were squared up a bit; needs to be rotated clockwise.

You can get lost in the many shapes this provides. Nice exposure and clarity. I would like to see the picture slightly off center a bit more but it is still somewhat off balance.
