Challenge: Glass II (with a twist) (Basic Editing III)

Living at the beach, I love beachcombing. I often look for floating glass balls after big storms. I have found one such Japanese floating hand-blown glass ball in Cannon Beach after a severe winter storm. The ball in the photo (size of a basketball) was given to me by a friend who found it on the beach of southern Washington. The rocks in the background framing the sunset are "Bird Rocks" or Chapman Point on the north end of Cannon Beach, home to one of the largest colonies of Common Murres on the west coast.

Post-processing: levels, color-balance adjustments, curves, bit of a saturation bump, neat image, rotate to level horizon, crop, resize.

a shot that shows that 'eye candy' doesn't have to be shallow. a visually stunning, beautiful and pretty image, that is more than just pretty. frankly, stunning and lovely.

I love this shot. The warm color of the sun showing through the ball like moving fire does it for me. Feels alive! It actually reminds me of the palantir from LOTR movie, same effect!

Definately should've been on the front page. :)

Funny. I had this rated higher than Zoomdak's. Both are excellent pictures, however.

Many congratulations! I'd never heard of these glass balls in the ocean.

Aren't kids a pain in the posterior?

Composition and colors... Beautiful! The color saturation looks just right. The glass ball looks like planet. One of my faves. Good luck!

This is great shot. It would be totally awesome with a slightly different crop (only the smallest sliver of sun showing) DOF and colors are superb.

Great setting and composition. Love the colors. The sun is a little blown out (but isn't the sun always blown out?) Overall outstanding photo.

The balance of light from the sun in the glass and on the horizon make this an excellent composition. I want one of these in my back yard.

I love this photo on several different levels. First the color, it's what caught my eye when scrolling down. Second is the glass, it's very interesting to me how the color schemes are the same inside and outside the glass, yet inside seems to be more refracted and distorted, almost like a mini universe right there on the beach.

this is a good idea and I think that his only problem is that there is too much over exposure on the background. I rate the image 7 because the effect on the ball is great.
best regards

This one is very good, I like the transparency of the glass ball and the fact that the sunset is reflected in it. I am not as fond of the sun itself and that part of the photo, the flare from the sun and the bright sky that tugs my attention from the ball and the water but nothing really that bothers me much. 8 from me, I really like this shot.
