Taken near Point Reyes National Seashore. I found this boat sitting "parked" on this sandbar and thought this was a perfect "stationary" object. I thought giving the boat a little room in front would emphasize the fact that it was "stationary".

Steps:
Auto levels
Channels R60, G20, B20
slight curves
Adjusted selective color yellows and blacks to whites, neutrals and blacks
increased brightness and contrast slightly
USM 250%, 2, 1

Great composition and treatment of light and tones.

Oh, yes. I've taken this image myself. Ankle deep in mud and other things. As a matter of fact, I think my image is in a Challenge somewhere but it certainly didn't fare as well as yours.

Good one.

Lovely b/w of a relic that once met the elements of wind and water with great gusto. Great composition. Congratulations on your 5th place finish.

Thanks Mpeters and everyone else who liked my image. I thought it was good--a little surprised though at my finish--wasn't expecting this high of a finish--there are truly some amazing pictures out there.

@kemptonreporter--I agree that this was the wrong time of day--but I couldn't do much about it. It seemed to do ok anyway.

With regards to the comment being off balance...for future reference I was wondering what made it off balance--the extra space in front of the boat, or the leaning of the boat.

Thanks again.

Wrong time of day for the shot if you ask me.
Early morning or late afternoon would have been better.
Good luck!

Love it! I was hoping to get a picture of an old washed up boat too but I didn't get a chance to go looking for one.

A California Classic, at least to some. I've been wanting to get up to Pt. Reyes and this ship does make a nice subject. Good duotone treatment.
