This is a building in downtown Denver, Colorado. It became the Holy Ghost church in 1905, and in 1983 an investment company purchased the land for 6.3 million to build a skyscraper around the historical landmark. The church took the money and feeds thousands of homeless every year with the money. The best part of the story is that the church ended up getting to keep the title (I believe) to the land after all when the investment group that built the building backed out of the project, making it one of the most lucrative deals in history.

Took it in the morning about 9:00, then croped the bottom because the photo was crooked a bit. Unsharpmasked it, and posted.

congrats on tenth place finish!

I was going to submit a shot from here into the lines challenge, but changed my mind when I saw this and realized that mine wasn't anywhere near as good :)

nice find, this is a difficult exposre to have color in the sky with the sun behind the scene but it would have helped me rate this higher, still a 7 for the great show of progress

I think this fits the topic best. While not the "best" picture, it a nice contrasting image between the two subject and to see how far society has taken us.

What I like about the photo:
The constrast between the 2 building.. good effort..

What could be improved:
It might be intentional .. but.. found the flare a little distracting...

Score
a 4 for me.. :)

great image. I really like the subject and idea. Only critique would be the framing, it seems oddly cropped at the bottom.

Did meet challenge. Nice juxtaposition - light is a bit harsh but not too detrimentally so.

What a contrast in building styles well representing the age difference. Some many things to look at that are interesting in this image and the lighting is very dramatic. 7

Excellent contrast to show the progress in architecture and society in general. Not sure I like the sun flare (I rarely do like them) but I like the rest of the photo.

I like how the church is lined up with the edge of the tower as it rises. My nitpick is the bright light at the left of the tower
