I think there are many abstract designs in God's creations, the kiwifruit is one of them...

I used natural light from a window with a white reflector. My D200 was on a tripod. I tried mandarins and lemons, but this one pleased me the most. I shot at ISO 100.

Basically did curves, levels, saturation, a little noise reduction, dodged and burned, canvas, resize for web and a little sharpening somewhere in there as well.

I am a titles guy, I mean, they're important to me, so I actually like the quirkiness of this one that I came up with...hope you do as well!

---Greetings from the Critique Club!---

First impression - awesome shot but not really an abstract

IMO, being able to recognize this as a kiwi fruit right off tells be this is not an abstract. I know not all DPC share that opinion and the overall voting reflects that.

From a photographic standpoint, this image has a lot going for it. The composition is particularly well done. The eye travels down the spoon to the spread of seeds in the fruit then around the green letting the view take in the whole image.

I feel a real chill to the spoon and the fruit making the image even more intriguing. The line of focus in the lower left corner looks a little like it was selected and blurred in post processing. Hard to tell from your notes. If this is the case, I would recommend a smoother transition (more feathering) between the 2 fields.

The border is too wide as well. It takes attention away from the strong image.

Congratulations on your ribbon and execution of an exceptional macro!

I hope this was helpful. Feel free to contact me if you have any questions.

Initially seeing this in the thumbnail it's hard to see how it meets the challenge. But on viewing the full size image the shot's abstract qualities do become apparent. The focus and lighting are spot on. While perhaps not my favourite in the challenge, this is, in my opinion, the best of the three ribbon winners by quite a ways. Congratulations on a great effort.

I love your title!!!!
Actually, your title was the reason I wanted to enjoy your photo. Please, feel free to enjoy the titles on my portfolio. (To date I believe that I have created more great titles than photos, but that only makes me more determined to improve my photography.)
I'm starting to believe that I may be more writer than photographer. Albeit, I love both passionately!

wow, i am surprised at the amount of 5s and 6s this photo got. and there is no way it deserves the 2 or the 3's definately deserves the ribbon, congrats.

Very fresh and nice !! But but but... what about the border ? have you sharpened your picture AFTER having added your border ?? If so, it's the reason why there's an irregular whiter line at the transition between the black border and the green kiwi... but I've to shut up a bit, congrats for the ribbon, what about a blue next time ??? ;)

I gave this a 9. Good macro. Colors are very good. Framing is well done, but borders on sacrificing the 'image space', at this size, if that makes sense, but still looks good, in my opinion. Good texture and composition.

one of my favorites this challenge -- the spoon adds the right element (a bit of color/texture change) and the narrow dof was carefully placed

Not much of an abstract but aniec shot none theless. I didnt let that affect my vote. Good colors and lighting but the area in focus is just a bit too thin IMO.

Abstract as I perceive abstract? Perhaps more of a macro than an abstract.
Do I like it? Yep. Nicely composed and an excellent macro. Lighting is good as well.
