Texture indeed! I like the angle you have chosen here, rather than straight-on. It seems to give the photo a bit of energy. I think I would have darkened a bit on some of the peeling paint to add even more to the depth and texture. Excellent in bw.

What a grerat find and love images like this..... The detail of the old wood with it peeling paint is amazing, and gives us wonderful textures. The old torn curtain also ads to the aged and run down desolate appearence.....

I really like the framing in shot, with the lines taking our eyes to the window frame, then up to the tattered shade. The void beyond the window really adds to the idea of abandonment, suggested by the exterior elements: the flaking paint; the disused shade; an unopened window; the rusting nails in the frame; and the wood splitting in places. Each of these has their own texture and the subtle combination of them all makes for a great photo. I would really like to have seen this shot in colour, if only to satisfy my own curiosity. There seems to be a plant creeping into the frame at the lower right and it's somewhat distracting. Cropping it out entirely or including more of it would have been improvment perhaps.

Fabulous shot, I am having a difficult time with a critique on this..... I like the shot, the quality, clarity, tones - all superb. I think what is bothering me is either the angle is too steep for my taste, or maybe just a little too far off center. (or a combo of both). I really don't know. I'm trying to picture this in a frame -- -- it is good work. - 8

For those that are just learning, like me.

Composition: Scoring in this area is based on basic composition of a picture and includes the rule of thirds, balance, cropping, and curved and diagonal lines. Subject matter that does not lend itself to the picture or otherwise unwanted is also considered here.

Originality: Scoring in this area is based on pictures or concepts that I have seen, as well as how much effort you have invested in the picture. Usually a little something that sets it aside from a snapshot. Does it make me want to come back for another look? You know things like that.

Technical Aspects: Focus, exposure, lighting, and other special effects (done by the camera), and post processing are all considered in this category.

Meets Challenge: This is based on my interpretation of if you, have/have not, met the challenge. This is fairly simple but quite important for this site.

There are many sites that can give you assistance in achieving better skills in photography, but I think the best way to learn is to take pictures and show them to other people. Believe me when it is a good one you will know it.

Good luck!

I like the pealing paint and the monochrome treatment of this image. Was this picture taken on an overcast day? I think the harsh lighting of direct sun would have realy brought out the texture of the weathered wood.

Good choice of subject and a good example of surface texture. The image focus seems slightly "soft" and I think it would be better if crisp.

Great job. this picture could tell a story. I like the vertical framing, but would a horizontal allow you to see more of the side, while keeping the window as the focal point? karmat

Nice image. Reminds me of all those great photographers during the Depression in the US. It sets a nice mood. Good contrast.
