Took a picture of our great dog Millie in our daughter's bedroom with some nice dappled light coming in from the window...I wasn't confident about this shot as I thought some people wouldn't think white was a colour...you know how particular some dpc voters are...

Basically cropped the shot, levels, some spot healing of stray hairs, some burning and doding, colour adjustment (removed a bit of pinkiness from the shot), USM, Noise Ninja, resized, border, a little more USM and dodging, pulled back the saturation a small amount to further remove pinkiness, blurred a line in the floor...and came up with a shot that I am happy with.

I love the way Millie locked into the camera with her eyes.

Greetings from the Critique Club.

Hi Enzo,

A great shot, and no doubt a nice family memory. It's the imploring eyes that make this shot work, along with the expression communicated by the face as a whole. It's been said before - adorable.

I agree that going for white-on-white was a brave move knowing 'how particular dpc voters' cab be. Fortunately it seems to have paid off for you. you sure don't seem to have been hit by the trolls.

How could it have done better? This is a tough call. The dappled light as it is does add to the picture. Nonetheless I think I would have liked to see Millie's face better lit. Perhaps if you could have got her to roate herself (I know, it's difficult enough as it is to work with animals) 45 degrees counter-clockwise to aligh with the light source and wait for a ray to flash on her face.

I hope my comments help and Good Luck in future Challenges!

Cheers
Paul

Cool, and cute, but would have been better with better lighting.

I don't even like dogs, and I like this image. It honestly is quite cute. Nicely done.

Hehe - I voted a while before I came across this image, and I didn't realize how much my eyes hurt from all the bright color until this photo, which gave them a nice rest. :-) I like the patterns of light and how they add interest without detracting from the subject.

Very nice composition, I like the sunlight and shadows on the floor. I read in the forums about white and black not being colours but I don't agree with that, I think this fits the challenge well.

Cute !! What a wonderful picture... I would have brought down the dog more into the center of the picture and get rid of the top left corner bit that looks like a door and perhaps spot edit that dark line in front of the dog.

not bad. I think I would have tried to go for more of a high key look to really make the whites come way out.

awww - Millie is such a cutie. Love the perspective! The lighing in the bottom left corner, her right front paw, and on her left shoulder is a bit harsh - but otherwise well done. I can really sense her softness.

Great pet portrait. The diagonal shadows add a nice bit of variance. I like it.
